This looks like a quick way to get your license. I am considering this myself, since my new radio does HAM as well as CB.

On September 10, the Richmond Fire Department Office of Emergency Services will be hosting a HamCram at the Fire Training Center where you can get your amateur Ham Radio License in just one day!

Please view the attached flyer for full details and a description. This HamCram is open to anyone and the fee for the HamCram and FCC testing is $30.  Please distribute to anyone who may be interested!

Online registration is available at www.n5fdl.com/hamcram.

For more information on HamCram, visit www.sjham.com/hamcram or call 209-565-HAMS.

Thank you,

Ham crams are the way to go! You won't learn anything but you'll pass the test :-P.

Despite the fact that I'd actually like to learn more about HAM radio and the like, I might try this out and study more after.

Plus I might pass in a day!

Thanks for the post. I've been thinking about a Ham or CB. CB seems so old school given the GMRS radios these days, but HAM seems to go the distance. Unfortuately I don't know much about either and need to school-up on them. You mentioned you had a CB/HAM radio combo. Does that setup use the same antenna?

CB/HAM combo doesn't legally exist in the US. I'm not sure what radio MoabFJ has but if it is a RCI 2970 then he needs to get a general license to use it on the HAM bands.

Also we are not running HF Ham frequencies on the trail only a few of us have a license that allows that. On the trail we use 2m 144mhz where CB is down at 27mhz. The closest HAM band is 10 meters which runs 28mhz. (did I lose you yet?)
