This is how the winch sits

The 8274 mounts vertically instead of horizontally like all the newer compact winches. Although it's heavier, I believe the 8274 Warn winch is superior to more compact winches due to it's indirect gear drive, speed, field serviceability, and tough design. No wonder Warn started making it again due to popular demand. I got both of mine for 300-400 on Craigslist. To cut down on weight and for safety reasons I used Masterpull 5/16 synthetic winch line which is about 1/10 the weight of steel cable.
