Oh good, I'm glad to hear that everything is ok.  Free repairs are the best kind!

My skids rattle like crazy due the same reason........

Comment by Blowtorch Betty on July 25, 2012 at 4:00pm

...and yes, the creaky sound is 100% caused by the skid plate rubbing against the exhaust.  Brakes, steering and everything else all checked out okay.

CV boot clamp was out of place, so they repositioned it.  My Certified Pre-Owned package didn't cover it, so the service manager told me he'd take care of it.  My total: $0.00.  I freakin' love the service guys at Downtown Toyota - Tony Cheung in particular.

ahh ok.  Well if they were heavily used that makes sense.  At least you can bash them back into shape since they are steel

It happens -- they're doing their job, that's for sure.  They were already a little bit bent because I bought them used (very recently) from another member on this site who has done a lot of wheeling on difficult trails.  They're BudBuilts.

wow..  man you must have really crushed those skids.  What brand are you running?

I think I found the problem regarding the creakiness issue.  Beer Rock is the likely culprit, as the skid plate is deformed in several places and the exhaust is rubbing.  The hex bolts and brackets that hold those diagonal tube struts on are mashed into the plate as well, forming little pucker points.  Ahh, the price of fun!

ahh  nice.  That keeps it nice and easy.  The next time we are out Ill give you a few of my clamps in case you need to do trail repairs.  Its super easy.  Takes about 5 min and lasts way longer than the stock clamps

Tomorrow, the rig is going to the truck doctor.  The service manager at the dealership already told me they were covered under warranty and would be replaced if necessary.
