FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Removed the deflector (a real pain in the ass) and swapped out the stock lights for amber. **If you're interested in doing this, do NOT follow the directions online from LA Trail Teams - you will likely break tabs off the back of your mirror or worse. So far, we have found NO info in any Toyota manual anywhere on how to remove the mirrors properly without damage. I broke tabs off one mirror, and then figured out the right way to do it on the second one. Talk to me if you're interested in doing this mini-mod, and I'll show you the right way ;-D

The amber color has proven to be very helpful for keeping track of the truck in a night-time convoy.

I don't need to remove the deflector.  Just change the bulb : )

Heya Cowboy - I did my second mirror light mod last night, and we took tons of pictures so I can create a quality online 'How-To.' In the meantime, if you're in Oakland/Alameda next week, I'll show you how to do it. I think I might have extra bulbs too. Do you want to take out your deflectors?

I am interested in being educated in the correct proceedure in getting at those bulbs.  One of mine is burned out and my FJ feels incomplete and sad : (

@NDA431FJr. -- Bright enough so that if you fold your mirrors in while night wheeling you can light up the sides of the trail?

I used Oznium high intensity LED flood lights and they are bright enough to use as turn signal lights.

FYI - Because the lights are front-facing, red or blue bulbs are toootally illegal and are reserved for police and emergency vehicles.
