FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Hey all,
I want to see some big ol trees! I know about driving up to Humbolt county to see the state parks but does anyone have any other nice spots? I'd be coming from San Jose and since this would be a day trip, anything outside of a 4 hour drive would probably be too long. Point me in the right direction?

Not sure if your looking for a nice drive or hike. I recently went to Big Basin Redwoods State Park an saw some good size redwoods an some waterfalls. Big Basin is in Saratoga I believe so it's not to far from SJ.
Muir Woods in Marin is a good place for some Big Trees
How about 'Big Trees' on Hwy 4. Probably getting close to your 4 hr limit from San Jose. Its a nice park with some good easy hikes and the name says it all.
If 4 hours is your driving limit, you could potentially make it to Sequoia National Park and see the General Sherman tree, largest Sequoia in California. Here is the map link from SJ to the exact tree (driving time ~4hrs);

Here's the wiki; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_giant_sequoias#List_of...
Other places I've personally hiked that have big trees and are WAAAY closer;
Big Basin
Sam McDonald Park
Portola State Park
Wunderlich County Park
Huddart Park
El Corte Madera Open Space Preserve
Purisma Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve
Uvas Canyon County Park
Check out bahiker.com for parks and maybe a resource to put together potential drives although the site is suited towards hiking.
