Hey there. I'm going to be up in Tahoe this weekend, FRI-SUN. Anyone know of a light trail (Since I will likely be by myself, unless any of you want to join in) in the Tahoe area?
Well, I like doing the Burnside Lake trail when I go up to Tahoe. It's a pretty easy trail...you can find the trail at the intersection of Highway 88 and Highway 89. If you are in South Lake Tahoe Travel down 89 (toward Kirkwood) at the junction 89/88 instead of turning right toward Kirkwood just continue straight. You will see a parking lot and a trail follow the trail to Burnside Lake.
. Head southwest on Lake Tahoe Blvd toward Winnemucca Ave
0.7 mi
2. Turn left at CA-89 S/US-50 W/Emerald Bay Rd
Continue to follow CA-89 S/US-50 W
4.8 mi
3. Turn left at CA-89 S/Luther Pass Rd (signs for Markleeville/Jackson/CA-88)
Continue to follow CA-89 S
11.2 mi
4. Continue onto Burnside Rd
1.4 mi
5. Continue onto Burnside Lake Rd
4.2 mi
I went out there and it was a very pretty lake, although also very crowded. The trail into camp can easily be done by a minivan, however there is a slighly more challanging trail if you fork off to the right and head up behind the lake, not to mention some great views.
There is also supposed to be a trail (at least according to my topo map) that continues down south but i couldn't find it and didn't feel like going through the pristine meadow.
Fishing was crap, but then i'm a crappy fisherman :-) . Had better luck fishing some of the rivers.
Twin peaks ohv has a fun quick trail to a scenic lookout. The trail head is about 1 mile from the Y in southlake. I posted a trail report in the trail report section of the forum a couple months ago...check it out. http://norcalfjs.ning.com/forum/topics/twin-peaks-ohv
I was able to make it out to Burnside Lake. Nice easy run to lake. Saw lots of side roads that looked like fun. Did not have much time but we were able to drop our canoe into the lake and tool around a little. Very serene. We went on a Tuesday. Crowds not an issue. Thanks for the tip. Posted pix on my page.
