To re-gear or not to re-gear that is the question
Hello People,
Ok, so I installed a RC 6" lift about a year ago. Now I am noticing that when I am off-roading up steep inclines I do not have the same level of power I once had. I am sure it is partially due to the 35" tires I am running. So, I called RC and they suggested 4.56 gears and the install kit. I see that a lot of people in the Blue room upgrade their gears to 4.88 when they lift their FJ's.
Also, if I do decide to upgrade the gears does anyone know of a good shop in the east bay? What should a re-gearing cost? Is it worth the $1000 + or should I just wait until the tranny craps out then replace everything?
Let me know because I do not know $h!t about gearing.

I got re-geared at Toy Connections. C4B also got regeared there too, and I think he paid somewhere in the $1000 range. If you don't tow, I'd stick with 456, but it's up to you. IMO, 488 is too tall for daily driving.
Waiting for your tranny to crap-out has nothing with re-gearing.

WIth those tires I would definetly re-gear. They are simply to big for the stock gearing while in an off road environment.. As you have stated you noticed..
You could go to 4.88 but I agree with pit that might be too high for a DD.. I think the best idea is to get as close to what the stock gear ratio would be if it was still stock..
