TNF Submits Grant Applications to the CA OHV Division for Public Comment
February 25, 2010

The Forest Service from the Tahoe National Forest (TNF) has proposed a Cooperative Agreement application to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division.  The TNF agreement application requests funding for “Ground Operations” (includes Conservation, Trail Maintenance and Facilities Maintenance), “Planning”, “Restoration”, “Development” and “Law Enforcement” projects.  Starting on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, the public may view this and all grant applications on the State’s internet website: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/.

The public comment process is now accomplished electronically utilizing the OHV Division’s website.  Since comments will go to both the State and the Tahoe National Forest, comments do not need to be sent separately to the TNF.   Additional information can be found on the above website.

Hi! Is this news good or bad? Can you explain more for who doesn't know about political issues?
Since the beginning of this year the federal government has given most it's deparments (Department of Agriculture which the Forest Service is a part of, Department of the Interior ((DOI)...)) a heads up that Federal budgets will be reduced. For me (I work for DOI) this means we can't hire our temporary-seasonal employees. This is a bad sign. This hasn't happened since I started 14 yrs ago.

I have no idea if this has led TNF to propose a Cooperative Agreement with the State without knowing more. Does the State dept. of Rec. manage TNF's OHV trails? I don't think so but this isn't out of the question. Many times a State dept. manages federal programs where there is a mutual benefit. It's possible that TNF is looking to have the State manage their OHV program and collect some funding much like what's done at Hollister.

Just my 2 cents.
