FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I am getting ready to buy some new tires for the FJ. I am thinking of either the Nitto Terra Grapplers or Goodyear Duratraks.

Have any of you out there had any experience with either of these brands? My rig is basically a camp and 4 wheel rig-not a daily driver.

My question is how do they perform on and off the highway and do they have decent life (mileage).

I am also open to other suggestions in tire brands that you have had good luck with.

and with frequent tire pressure checks and 3k rotations people have claimed 70-75,000 miles on 350's 2500, 3500's pick up trucks

Yup, I had a hard time deciding how aggressive of a tire I really needed......didn't want the A/T's but didn't want the super aggressive M/T's either..so I thought the duratracs were a good compromise.

However, I bet your bad boys will do just great on the trail.

i like the General Grabber AT2's ... those were my other choice after looking at some of the reviews and ratings from that site
What lift are you running
Are you running the tires now?
not yet, i'm ordering them next week 285/75/16!!!!

I was looking at Toyo Open Country M/T as a possible choice. It is said to handle well and not carry too much noise. They are not cheap (at least the ones I've found). You may want to give them a look to in your search.

Anyone running these who can offer some real-world input and knows of a good source?

I was tempted to get those as well.   If I remember correctly weight was the issue that made me look elsewhere, they are a heavy tire!
i'm diggen my BFG KM2's so far....not the cheapest but they ride great on the street with only a slight hum which i thot they'd be much louder with how agressive they look....haven't had them very long so don't have personal experience on longevity yet but always had good luck with previous BFG's.

Well it has been a couple thousand miles since my purchase of the duratraks. They have a good ride, are not as noisy as I thought they would be, and so far have done well the few times I have been out. I think next time I buy I will put 4.88's in and run a larger tire.

Happy with what I got and should last a while.

Good to hear you're like'n the Duratracs. I'm thinking about going with those myself. What size and load rating did you end up with and do you have a lift of any kind? I ask because I was wondering if the 285/70R17 would rub on a stock setup(?). I'm looking forward to a 3" lift, but need tires now and cash is tight.
