Spill kits..

Oil......

What can I say its one of those items that us wheelers connot do with out. Our truck are full of it, its in the Engine, Axels, Transmissioin, Transfer case (sometimes x 2 ). I would venture to say that we all carry several gallons of oil in our truck and spare oil we bring just to operate our trucks. There is also several other different types of chemicals that we carry in our trucks, Engine collant, Brake fluid, Power steering fluid. Most of this can be considerded a petrolium product of some sort. Bottom line here is that all of this oil does great thing while in out trucks, but falling onto the ground is where the issue starts and can be one of the main reasons trails are closed.

One way to prevent this is with a spill kit. A spill kit is something that should be standard gear in everyones truck before they go out on trail. If you do spil oil on the trail a spill kit will minimize the damage done to the ground. Getting as much of the oil from the ground or preventing it from hitting the ground in the first place is key. There are several different types of kits out there, Most can be $$, but these can be good to get everything that you need all at once. I am planning on doing some research to provide some options for kits and I will post that up here.. A good spill kit should have at LEAST: 1 container ie, some kind of container or bucket to hold oil, several absorbant pads flat and round, several garbage bags, plastic gloves. Your basic mind set should be how can I contain the oil dripping out. Second, how can I prevent it from spreading, Finally, how can I clean up the mess from the ground. Its really important to clean up as much oil as you can and pack it all out. SO this brings me to my question..... How many of us have a spill kit that we carry on trail ???? bump! who else is in? i'm willing to coordinate the assembling and distribution of these kits provided we have a place to do it. Bozly's shop? i've got an idea for the bags as well...let's talk.

Yes lets figure this out. I forgot to show you my kit while we were at Hollister. I have a catalog I have been looking through. I will help Tater with what I can. IT would be nice to have each kit cost figured out so we can buy in bulk and build them. Give me a call and we will tlak to about it more.. Bozly's place will be good if he agrees.

We could have everything shipped here and assemble one weekend, maybe combine it with an install/social day.

Thats a good idea. Once we figure out exactly what we are going to get and how we are going to carry it (ie some kind of small duffle type bag thing). I also have two days off every week and I could head out on one of those days to assiemble the kits.

Maybe we should have all of the materials in one place and do an assemble your own kit/social day. That way people will know what is in the kit rather than just having a bag og stuff in their rigs. If some one could do demos on how to use everything that would be even better.

Sure that would work if everyone can come out. There will always be someone who cannot come. Of course there is nothing stopping people from opening up the kit and seeing what inside.

Only reason I said about during the week is because my weekends are getting more and more busy so I more than likely will not be free on many weekends for the next couple of months, and I wanted to help out in some way since I did start the thread.

But I totally understand where yoru coming from.

A demo would be good as well.

Awful expensive. The "diapers" as we call them in the tugboat business can be bought in a bundle of 50 for about 60 cents each... Gloves by the box are what less than $10. A group buy might be in order and of course potatomutato could come up with an appropriate bag with a NorCal logo?????? just testing the waters.....The only thing missing is the sausage rolls which you could make with the flat sheets... check out this site for ideas..

You can usually buy bulk(50 to a pack) pads at some oil company outlets and truck stops or even West Marine.
