posting up a placeholder for the annual Slick Rock Trail run. this year, we will add Sour Grass trail (aka Pine Needle Flat) and another easy/moderate trail. as usual, you are not required to be present from the first day. you can arrive and depart as you please. Slick Rock is currently scheduled for Saturday. more details, including the trail schedule, to follow in the coming weeks.

view the Slick Rock Trail description...video forthcoming.

here is some more helpful info regarding camping and wheeling:

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Bring what you would normally bring camping. Tent, sleeping bags, etc. For driving, bring whatever recovery equipment you have (standard practice). If you have any additional spare parts, it's always a nice-to-have for the trails.

Q: What's the toilet situation?
A: There are two pit toilets available at the campgrounds. If you don't like to use pit toilets, you are more than welcome to bring your own PETT (environmental toilet). We do not recommend digging around the campgrounds.

Q: What is the food & beverage situation?
A: It is bring your own. However, you are encouraged to team up with others on some meals to prevent wasted foodstuffs and to help cut down on budget. Feel free to use this discussion thread to discuss food management or PM is good as well.

Q: Should I bring firewood? Are fires allowed? Are fire permits needed?
A: Yes, yes and yes. Firewood is also available at the Bear Valley Resort, but is always a little pricier. As of today, fires in fire rings are still allowed. We haven't had any fire restrictions in Bear Valley the previous years, so let's hope that remains the same this year. We will have one or two fire permits with us, so that should be good enough. However, having a fire permit is always recommended because you just never know when you'll want to head out camping. You can fax in your information for a campfire permit. Here is the link to access the .pdf California Campfire Permit request.

Q: Is there cellular signal at the campsite?
A: No. The nearest signal is at Bear Valley Resort up the road.

Q: Is there a campsite fee?
A: No. It is dispersed/undeveloped camping, so there is no fee. If, by some long shot, we need to move to a developed campground, then you will be responsible for paying fees onsite.

NorCal FJ Code of Conduct is in effect on this run.

please feel free to ask any questions (via this thread or via PM) that were not covered here.

Ray is coming from up north, so we're just going to meet him at the campsite. TOE 4X4 and i will be leaving Oakland between 10:00-11:00 AM. just let me know if you plan to join...we can decide on a meeting spot later.
I'm sorry but I'm out. Long story short: I've been away a lot for work, wife unhappy, and daughters first birthday. I tried but every road was blocked. I really need to get away just for the weekend.
I feel ya... sigh.
I was just vetoed by my wife for various but similar reasons.
Maybe the two of us can sneak out next week...?
WHAT?! no Red Vines at Slick Rock?! :-(
Dude, I'm more than happy to hand them off to bz if you're jonesen that much :-) But yea, I'm pretty bummed right now - and the 'walking round the house with sad face' ain't working :-( High Sierra for sure.
try crying whilst pounding your fists and feet on the floor...that generally works.
Just bring the family.....nothing like being in a suv for hours to help bond a family.
Well I'm stoked too! I am jealous of those of you who are leaving Thursday and sad for those who must cancel. Since I missed everyone last year and we spent our day trying to find the group, I thought I'd post a few of my favorite pictures from my trip last year. In a few spots I was freaked out thinking I was stupid for going alone and trying to catch up... But the view from the bridge at the end was very satisfying.

Count us in. We'll leave the Bay Area Thursday morning. Any directions to the campground?
PM sent!
I am out for this one. @#^%^^&*(*!!!
ok, gangaroo! looks like we have 20 signed up for this run, although i didn't receive a response to my PM from some of you so i expect we'll probably end up with more like 17. we will most likely break up the Slick Rock run on Saturday into 2-3 groups, staggering each by an hour. first departure from camp will most likely be around 10:00 AM.

if you plan to meet us at the trail head, please consult the Slick Rock trail description for coordinates and be there between 10:30 and noon on Saturday.

those of us going early (today) will most likely go on a short trail run on Friday. also, depending on everyone's mood, we may do an easy, scenic run on the way out on Sunday. a night run on Mt. Reba is also a possibility.

see you there!
