FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hi I'm getting mad to look for the procedure to program the FJ so that when I press the UNLOCK wireless button ONCE, it unlocks ALL the doors... I have tried some procedures I've found on the internet but it doesn't work.

Probably a dealer could "program" it but I have fear to be ripped off. Maybe an independent? Or somebody that knows personally somebody working in the service dept? It should be a "few minutes" procedure.

Why ????
What do you mean?
Is it really that hard to press the button twice???  Seem like a lot of work ver little gain.. Unless there is another reason..

Oh, I simply like the car to be fully open unless it's closed, that's it. After all, many modifications offer little or no "gain" for the time and money that is put it. Some people paint the roof black, others remove mud flaps, people even install CAIs - what is the gain? Simply they like their vehicle better that way.

Besides, I ALWAYS open all the doors in my FJ, all the times. Sometimes it happens that even if I press twice it "misfires" and it only opens driver's door, and I hate that.

I am into several "controversial" mods:

  • permanently turn off all chimes:
    • I removed the wires to prevent beeps when I leave the key in the ignition and I open the door (and the seatbelt too; the "software method" was not good enough) <= BEST MOD EVER
  • removed the "clutch safety switch":
    • I wanted to be able to start the car independently of the clutch position, without having to press the safety cancel button; there are many reasons I may want to start the engine with the clutch partially engaged AND not having to press a button for that to happen.
  • I am collecting documentation and I will most likely do the VSC cancel switch.

One Mod I would love to see you do is the removal of the tag that sticks out of the golve box.. Seems to me that one would be real simple..  But once the little one is big enough to grab and pull, it might be taken care of that way..hehehehehehehehe

I understand what you saying but I disagree that many mods offer little or no gain.

If there was nothing to gain, then why do anything.

Even with what your talking about, with the doos locks, has a gain for you..

You normally think outside the box anyway so I was wondering what you were trying to accomplish..

The tag will stay at least until my mom will visit US so that I can show her I have bought a "new" car ;)

See, about "thinking out of the box", thanks I see that as a compliment; the fact is that every little mod you make, as useless it might be, teaches you about the vehicle, how it works, how it has evolved since older models, etc etc... It's knowledge that I value a lot.

Thinking outside the box was definetly a complement..  Even though I give you a hard time, I really do like what you come up with..  Sometimes I need more info so I can understand what your trying to accomplish..

And yoru right the more we do the more we learn..

There was a 72 post thread on this back in 2006 and the outcome was to beg the dealer to do it for free. Otherwise they wanted $42.
Do you have any info on what a dealer do to change this function? Do they connect to the OBD2, to another connector, do they perform a "procedure" opening and closing doors multiple times...???
I am finding information that with a software called "Techstream" and a proper ODB2 cable, one might be able to change those parameters by itself. If anybody has experience with this, please let me know ;) but I am seriously looking in this direction now.
