FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Okay, so I have been wanting skids for some time and ultimately decided that steel was the way to go, for me.  With that decision done with, I was right on the verge of ordering some budbuilts until I saw a newish (in the FJ world at least) company announce that they were going to release some steel skids for the FJ.  The design looked good and they were quite active on the blue room boards so I decided to go with them.  I had tried to contact budbuilts for some time and could never get a hold of them on the phone/email and never got a response to my messages or voicemails which kinda turned me off...  I know, not a big deal considering the rave reviews the skids get, but customer support is important when spending such large amounts of money to me.

After waiting a couple months for them to finalize the design, I sent the payment and they shipped it out immediately. They are located in Texas so shipping was quite fast, within the week, and was free at the time.  After getting them painted, I had to wait several weeks until I could finally install them because of my schedule.

Install was flawless, all the parts lined up perfectly etc.  Here are the pix!

I like it!!! Give us the skinny as to cost. What gauge metal?  You mentioned ease of install, and quick shipping, what do they have for colors?  Inquiring Steve's want to know!!!  Seriously, the pics look good, bro. I will be in the market soon.

Steve Hope.

I believe on the website the have black powerder coating as the only option, however I think someone in the blue room got theirs done in red.  I opted for bare steel and painted it with some rustoleum.  I figure it will get scratched eventually and its easier to touch up paint, at least imho.

I paid 1k total, shipped, bare steel (3/16" HRP&O).  I believe it was an introductory price as their website now lists it for a bit higher, however, shipping is still free and when you factor that into the cost, these become a better value.

Nice report! Great pictures - Well done!

damn those look nice!! looks like you need to wash your undercarriage bro haha

thanks hahaha, the problem is, some of that is clay that wont come off unless I get under there and scrub for hours...  At least the top side is still shiny!

Oh yes!!!! I like. Those are exactly what I want. Now I must sell a kidney.

Nice install!  I notice you have a pair of LCA skids from Ricochet?  I'm currently running the complete HD set from Ricochet, but am getting annoyed by having to take off the engine skids every time I have to do an oil change.  I stripped one of the threads and had to fix it using helicoil.  I'm thinking of just ordering the engine skid from Shrockworks, but wondered if the fitment will allow a hybrid install.  By the looks in the picture, it may work.  Thanks for sharing!

yeah, you might want to shoot them an email to confirm before biting the bullet!

Oh yeah. This is nice. :)

that new body armor looks awesome!

How have they held up? Any issues with all the exposed bolt heads yet?

So far so good...

I haven't actually hit a rock straight on the bolt heads so I can't really speak as to that vulnerability but the skids themselves have taken some hits and are holding up just fine.
