As most of you who were on the High Sierra run know that on Thursday the 24th, our Buddy Tabu passed away.
Leonie found Tabu at a gas station when he was about a month old. After $500 and a bag of medicine he didn't look any better but a few weeks of skin treatment, vitamins and fatty acids, improvement could be seen. From there he just became a little hellion taking full advantage of sharp puppy teeth to irritate mostly John but was indiscriminate in who he would annoy with nips to the feet and arms. The monster was born.
At an early age Tabu gained a love for the mountains, Tioga Pass was a favorite but any place that had squirrels, or any kind of critters to chase, he was in his element. He didn't let the ride to and from a trip go to waste either, from a dead sleep if we passed cows, he would be in the window giving the cows what for. He always had a hamburger from Burger King on the way home but we knew we had done our job well when he would sleep through the food stop.
Most of you didn't know our Little Buddy as he had just turned 14 years old and was unable to join us anymore on adventures into the wild. He had many problems old dogs have but he was always happy, would greet us enthusiastically whenever we walked in the door and would follow us relentlessly till we gave him a doggie treat.
Blaze, Leonie & I will miss him but the doggie lifetime of memories we have will endure for many years to come.
I will forever regret not being with him in his final hours as he was always there for me through good times and bad, but now his pain is gone and he's in a field somewhere chasing critters and having fun for never ending days.
Good bye Buddy, you will have a place in our hearts forever.
