I'm running a TC long travel and fox shocks.  I use my FJC to prerun races and chase.  Just chased down in the Baja 1000 in November.  We race a class 6 truck sponsored by Total Chaos. We race VORRA, SCORE, and BITD.  I'm just starting to put a full race cage in my FJC.  Come to the VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) races, and you'll get an idea of what it's all about.

 

I love my TC setup.

Thank you very much for the information! I would love to come down and see the races, looked at the site and ill probably be at the Reno-Sparks race as I live in the north tahoe area. I am extremely new to the offroad race world, i have modded my FJC with a few things here and there (where money permitted) so i was also wondering what are the main things needed to be modded on the FJC to make it race and succeed in desert racing? I know that a serious suspension system needs to be installed, mostl likely skid plates, roll cage, and the rest i dont know lol. let me know! i appreciate the help a ton!!!

I'm just a co-driver.  Mike Koenig, Koenig Racing, has been racing for a couple of decades.  He has built 3 race trucks.  The Koening Racing truck is 1 of 3 Total Chaos factory sponsored trucks.  TC has their own truck, and Dan Vance owns/drives the other TC factory sponsored truck.

 

Check with suppliers.  Off Road Warehouse (ORW) is one.  Some will offer racer discounts.  Most sponsorships are in the form of  contingency sponorship.  IE, you have their sticker on your truck and if you win they give you some money.  Full spnorship is very difficult.  Takes years of racing to develop the contacts and show them you can produce some results.

 

Racing is fun.  But, it beats the shit out of your truck.  To see what you need to do, go to quite a few races.  Don't just watch, but get involved with a team.  Prerun with them, and help with their pit.  You'll learn what's involved and give you ideas of what you'll want to do to your truck.

Well it's not a TC sponsored truck, but we race a VW based class 9. You are welcome to come out and see what it take to race an "inexpensive" class, if you are mechanically inclined we'll put you to work. We are running the HDRA series, some SNORE and a MORE race. Next race is Battle at Primm in a couple of weeks. HDRA has a Reno race in July this year, tech and contingency will be held on Virginia Street under the arch.

Pretty cool what you can do w/ only 6.25 inches of front wheel travel.

Guys thank you very much for all of your help!, i see that there is a VORRA and an HDRA race in early and mid July in Reno this summer, i will definately be there. As the time comes closer i will definatlely be attending both! I have noticed that for the HDRA race, there is a prerun option, if i was to excercise that option what do i need to do with HDRA to be able to prerun as well as is a stock suspension OK to do the prerun? Thanks for everything guys! and Sandstorm i will definately take you up on the pit work on one of the races. I dont have a lot of mechanical work history but i am very competent with tools and a quick learner on such things. Once again guys thank you for everything and the support and quick and helpful responses!

If you can prerun with a team, that would be the ticket.  A stock suspension would most likely be fine. You'll just be alot slower.  Even with my LT, I'm not even close to our race truck.  Prerunning and chasing the last couple of years has taught me alot, as well as learn the limitations of the FJC.  When at the VORRA race, look for my FJ, and I'll show you what abuse my FJ has taken just to give you some ideas what direction your build might require.

Man all this talk about racing is making me miss the old Skip Barber days !  One of these days I want to head out to a race and give someone a hand in the pits.. Never really wanted to drive but I love being in the pits ! 

Sorry really nothing important to add but the thread got me thinking about old times..
