Overland Rally: Expeditions West Announces Regional Overland Rallies and Workshops - Hollister SVRA, September 24-26, 2010

Hey all,

Passing along the news over here; Scott Brady from Expeditions West just announced a Regional Overland Rally and Workshop to be held at Hollister SVRA, September 24-26, 2010.

Last February, I went down to Arizona for a 1 week Overland training course with him. I had a really good time time and learned a ton. Scott is a great guy and a fantastic instructor.

This Regional Workshop seems to be a smaller scale Overland Expo with trip presentations, vendor exposition, featured vehicles, and a variety of workshops. I'm definitively planning to attend, and hope I can finally get to meet all of you over there. (I'm sure by September I already will have met some of you on either meet and greets, or trail runs somewhere, but just in case, this one event, I will surely not miss)

I left HS early to go to Exp but was feeling progressively worse during the drive so I just went home. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys learned.
Great to see you at the Overland Rally, DivnGirl, even if only for a few minutes. It was a fun event. Enjoyed your pictures. And that VW Syncro flopped over at the top of Truck Hill? A complicated recovery: We used one truck winching to stabilize and secure it. Another (mine) winching through a snatch block to get it back on its wheels. Then we winched in tandem, with a driver inside the VW, to get it to the top of the hill. Drove it back to camp under its own power, though.

Here's a thread with some pictures from the top:

Yeah, I wish we could have stayed longer. It was awesome seeing all the different set-ups on the various types of rigs. I had a chance to sit in on Scott's talk about his recent few months traveling the Silk Road. He is an amazingly polished speaker. We caught the advanced 4x4 class but our recovery workshop ended up being rescheduled. Then, we hear through camp that a VW Syncro was on its side on Truck Hill. We made our way out and watch at the bottom until it was uprighted. Wished we could have been up there to see the masters at work! Anyhow, great event, great seeing a familiar face as well!
DivnGirl and J - Great to meet you both. Will see you at future events adn on the road!
Most excellent, sir. It was a pleasure. Sounds like we ought to start planning for the Overland Expo in Arizona in April. I'll be there.

Yeah, saw this....would love to go but, being in education, my vacations are locked in. I'm not on spring break until a few weeks later in April...and I don't think I'll have my 'warp speed' mod installed in time to make a weekend trip out to AZ.
Damn it Jim I am doctor not a warp drive installer...

Scotty, we need more power
Looks like I missed a good event.. Had to watch the kids otherwise I would have made it out.. Damn J thats twice you came out to Hollister... You moving back to the bay area ??? LOL I know your not...
Tony, I do get down to the 408 once in a while. More often when there's a great event like this and the AllCal extravaganza. And you're right, the high desert suits my style just fine.
I left High Sierra Friday headed to Hollister but became exceedingly under the weather on the way so ended up going home. I hope to make the next one. Glad you guys went.
