FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Which unit should I get. I love doing custom install crap, so that will be fun, I just don't know anything about models of CB.
Thanks in advance,
Rob

What location are you looking at for the install? I have a Uniden 520XL unit and they are like $60 (ish) Then you have the antenna, mount and cable. ($100 ish)

The Midland 75 something or another is a nice unit, all in one hand held that comes with a couple of battery packs and an antenna to also make it a portable unit if you need to be out of the truck spotting or something.
I have the Midland 75-822 (same as Bozly). Field tested - working perfectly so far. I love the battery pack options (one for regular AAs and one for rechargeable batteries) for portability, and you don't have to deal with mounting a box anywhere. $79.99 on Amazon.
I have the same Midland unit with a Cobra external antenna. I tested it out this weekend in Hollister and it seamed to work pretty well for a mobile unit. I definitely want to get a firestik down the road.
I have one too. Works well. Especially if you connect an external antenna.
Yup - I'm using a 4 foot whip with mine (Firestik)
I'm working on getting a ham license soon but an awesome unit is the Magnum 257HP (80w)...if you get it tuned & expanded it will do all CB channels and Ham channels....you have to be licensed to broadcast on the Ham channels so if thinking about getting licensed this will cover you for CB, LSB & USB thats a ton of channels....
I have a Midland 1001Z it was super cheap but really works well with a boztec antenna mount and 5ft firestik I have Zero complaints
I got the Cobra 75WX ST CB with 4' Fire Stick. It's an all in one hand held, which I've found more convenient to use than my old system.
I've used both the Midland 75-822 and the Cobra 75 WX. They both perform well, but I prefer the Cobra. It's easier to mount and I like the fact that the display is backlit all the time. The Midland's night light didn't stay on long enough for me. Both are excellent trail CB's that have good range in urban enviornments.
I don't see the need of having a full sized CB in an FJ, unless you are a CB enthusiast that wants to talk to people 20 miles away. I'd slap a DIN sized one into the truck if I had a DIN sized radio.
