FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hey everyone.  I'm a soon to be FJ owner.  I'm looking at a particular one, a 2010 that has the convenience package and offroad package. It also has toyo mud terrains.  23K miles.  What do you think would be a fair price for it?  Here is the dealer link.  Other than the obvious missing woofer switch any other things jump out as a big no no??

The thing is that I'm in Monterey and that dealer is in OC.  I'm doing most of my negotiations via email/phone.  Their is not much good priced stock here nor anywhere close.  I would do it as you suggest, but just not possible for me right now.  On another note, their is an 2011 in Montana that appears to be competitively priced at 26.9K, toyota certified, 21K miles.

Used Toyota's hold their value incredibly well. You can def do a lot of web research on current prices and get dealers around the country to send you price quotes.

Here is a army green 2010 at a dealer in OR with 26K miles on it for $26.6. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/2911674465.html I am sure you can get him down from that price. You are in a stronger position to deal when you can show a dealer another truck at a price you want to pay so use them against each other.

Just remember if it is in another state, it's going to cost you to get it back to CA so that may equalize a deal between a Cruiser in CA versus one that is out of state. I bought a used econo car a few years ago off a guy in Michigan and I think it was close to $1000 to get it shipped here.

BTW, welcome to the site and good luck in your search.

I would tell them you are turned off by all the options and aftermarket items that have been added it to it. Your worried that it may have been driven hard and offroad.  Bluff them a little by asking them to put on new tires. All a ploy to get them to cut down the price. heck if they put on new tires you can always sell them on craigs list for a pretty good price :-).

Good luck...very nice looking truck :-)

Do not worry about tires or anything else.. until you take if off road you will not know what kind of tires will work out best for you.  Find a Completely stock one and mod it yourself. Bad ass tires should not be the final decision.  Also if you buy something that was modded you then have to wonder was the work done correctly?"

IMO all of the "Packages" that Toyota offers on these trucks whjen new are not worth that much in the real wold. Well, At least what I was being offered in '06 when I purchased mine, For way to much by the way.

Good luck and Welcome to the site..

X2 on what Boss is saying.  another alternative is searching the blue room or CL.

You could definitely get a better deal buying a bone stock one. Plus there are so many group buys here, and mod days that you will be able to build it yourself over a period of time.

Appreciate all the feedback and help.  I'm basically looking for an FJ 2010-2012 4wd, white, tan or green.  Convenience package for the control and keyless entry.  ATRAC and rear lockers, looks like offroad package would be the cheapest route for those two items.  Trying to keep it under 26K if at all possible, and under 30k miles.

for me those would be the two exceptions...make sure you get a model that has the lockers..ATRAC is a bonus and saves you a mod down the road....but no ATRAC can be worked with as long as it has the lockers. .... don't go without the lockers....potential big regret down the road (no pun intended)

Yup, you can't add ATRAC if the truck doesn't have a rear locker.  You just need to get a switch for the ATRAC, since it's pre-wired.  I'm planning to do that soon, but my rig has been proven to be very capable off-road without it so far... rock crawling and everything.

welcome and good luck with your search. you've received quite a bit of good advice from everyone already. sometimes patience (and perhaps a little luck) will get you the truck you're looking for. you may even find gems like this one if you're lucky! SOLD: 2007 Voodoo Blue FJC - nicely built
