FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I got my first recovery mission the other day. I took the wife, kids, and dog to Eagle Lake Campground just outside of Susanville, CA to play in the snow. The dog, Luna, who's a sweet Siberian Husky, pulled the girls around the park on a sleigh for about 2 hours. We had an awesome time playing in the snow. When the sun started to set, we all loaded up in the FJ and started heading out. The roads were all snow and ice. Pretty slippery. I just took my time and had it in 4 High. I really wasn't having any problems with traction at all. Down the road, we came up on the back side of a Ford F350 extended cab 4x4. The guys moved over on the side of the road. I guessed that they were letting me go by. As we passed them...going slow, I noticed in my rear view mirror that they slid down in to the ditch so I stopped to see if they would be able to get out. No such luck for them. The heavy and long truck just plowed along the ditch forward and backward so I backed up and got out to see if I could help. The ditch was deep enough and sharp enough that the truck was pushing dirt and snow over the lower control arm. We hooked a tow strap from the truck to the FJ's hitch and I got in. I did put it in 4 Low so I could lock the rear axle. She pulled the Ford out without any trouble at all. Considering the road conditions, I would have expected there to be more slipping but that was not the case. All in all, I was very pleased with the way the FJ took care of business.

Well done! I never like to pull out trucks bigger then myself :-D, but on occusion (and in situations like yours) I'll break that rule.
nice job got any pic's?
woot...nice makes me even more lucky I got the FJ
I hear ya there Estysalinas. I grew up in South Carolina mud and am pretty quick to evaluate the level of "stuckness" to gauge if it is even worth the effort to hook up to a heavier vehicle. I'm definitely not into tearing up mine in the process. As only half of his truck was stuck, I thought I would give it a go. No snatching was involved. Just Low-4 and a solid pull was needed. The FJ pulls pretty strong for sure. Here's a pic that my wife took through the mirror as I was tightening up on the pull strap.

Looked at the pic, i would have given it a go as well :-D. One of the most fun things about having an FJ is the ability to recover other vehicles. I get a thrill out of helping someone get unstuck!
