Moab or flood

Working up a trip to Moab before the big snow melt this year. It will be the first trip with the wife so we will be poking around the area and seeing the sights. I am looking for some ideas to break up the trip going and coming. I am planning to go Hwy 80 and come back on Hwy 50. We will toss in the boards to check out the snow in Utah. We are thinking the last week in April.

I need to get out of town before the big melt. The San Joaquin River watershed has so much snow that May/June will be the "run for the hills" month. If you live on the valley floor near the river - buy a boat and flood insurance.

i heard there are some great ghost towns and/or abandoned mines just south of Reno. ping Bozly...i think he knows of a few.

Just got back...by way of I-15 and Vegas. Zion was absolutely spectacular yesterday. The narrows are still closed due to the Virgin River flow.

Did you take two full days to return or more by way of I-15? Or? How were the trails - wet or dry?

Thinking 50 verses 80 going out. Robin has not had the "opportunity" to drive "the loneliest highway in America" ... But, I am looking to break the trip up a bit.

We drove from Moab to Zion, spent the night, then straight home through Vegas...all highway. As for trails in Moab, they were all dry except for Top of the World. There was a little snow and mud...not too much but enough to make some of the rocks slimy.
