Great video - This is what having a vehicle that will take you to places like this is all about. Great seeing the expressions on the kids faces - priceless - for them, truly what life memories are made of.

@Tsy87 - it's easy to do and most expensive is gas to get out there (unless you don't have camping stuff, in which case, that will be pretty expensive). If it's just a matter of planning it, I can help you. :)
@Overlander36 - amen, brother. Kids had a blast. I just kept saying, "This is so much better than Disneyland." ...and it's true. Disney is great, but it's all about the attractions. A trip like this is all about each other. (and my truck).

Good news - check engine and VSC light is on. Think I'll head to Autozone and see if they can give me the code.

sweet!! are you allowed to camp like, with normal tents? I dont have the coin to invest in a RTT, and I kinda dont want to either.

How long does it take to drive out there?

16 hours from Belmont. Google Maps will give you exact time and multiple routes. Use "Get Directions" destination is Moab, UT, & just have it calculate from "current location" (default).

For Canyonlands (and most NPs) you would make reservations. Google "Canyonlands backcountry permit" and shd quickly find reservations.

You can camp out in just your skivvies if you want... RTT is one way to go. So are ultralight backpacking tents, and of course big car camping tents. Bivvy sack is 4th option.

The car camping tents - like Coleman - get the job done and are very cheap. Coleman tents are available at places such as Target, Wal-Mart, & Costco.

I have experience w all of them & RTT is quicket to set up / tear down, and most comfortable.

REI has a very liberal return policy, and I buy almost everything from there... but you won't find Coleman tents there.

I actually have a decent amount of camping gear, ultralight backpacking stuff as well as car camping stuff... I'm sure a lot of the other gear would be highly dependent on what time of year you go for weather conditions.

Another question, how many fuel cans/capacity did you bring for your trip?

REI is one of my favorite stores! LOL!
