FJ Cruisers of Northern California

So I started looking into lifting my FJ, and decided I dont want to go to extreme because I still plan on driving it to and from work 4 days a week. I figure that a 3" kit would work for me because Im not looking to get too crazy off road.

I found a FJ parts site http://www.fjcruiseraccessory.com/fjcrsu.html and narrowed it down to three choices.
1. Bilstein 5100 series lift system ($425.25)
2. Rough Country 3" Suspension Lift Kit ($329.95)
3. FJ Cruiser 3" Lift Kit by ProComp ($529.55)

Since I am new to this I would like to get more opinions on these set-ups. Thanks.

There are a few good posts on the blu room re suspension....http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/buyers-guides-product-compari...
Also check the forums on this site.
You may also want to consider a less than 3" lift, as the 3" spacers may cause your CV joints to wear prematurely.
Well the ProComp kit comes with front struts and coil springs, also rear shocks with coilsprings. It is the most expensive of the three ive looked at but if its going to be the most efficiant in the long run than its probably worth it.
1. Bilstein 5100 series lift system ($425.25) --- http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/fjadjbils.htm 175.00/pair
This will only lift the front. I had these up front and was very happy, but needed more ground clearance. If you do not plan to get taller tires or do any serious wheeling this is a good choice. Do not buy the rear shocks, not necessary.

2. Rough Country 3" Suspension Lift Kit ($329.95)
Economical way to lift, will most likely give the smoothest ride since it uses spacer up front.

3. FJ Cruiser 3" Lift Kit by ProComp ($529.55)
Do some research, ProComp has a bad reputation. Junky parts and usually seen on mall crawler jeeps. No personal experience, just what I have read and observed.

Budget for a set of upper control arms as well, they are necessary to get your alignment correct. You will also be over extending the upper ball joint after any lift. Light Racing is best bang for your buck.

You'll also want a Front Swaybar Relocate Kit if not included w/ the lift you buy. Also consider getting a Front Differential Drop Kit.
I go the RC Lift about 2 1/2 years ago and I am very happy with it. I got in on a group but at the Blue room.

Spacers up front and ext shocks and springs in the rear.

I am in the same situation as you because my FJC is also my Daily Driver. I wanted to get 33's on my Truck so it was the best way to accomplish this for the $. I still have the Stock UAC with no Problems. I have also not had any issues with CV's (I have 76,000 on them). or UAC's. But I also don't wheel as hard as some.

This is a great and inexpensive way to lift your FJC. I would now like to get new coils up front and new UAC's but thats only because I feel its time for a change, but I am broke so I am still just dreaming..

Good luck and if you can look out for a group buy...
I have a OME setup that i'm ok with, i have not had any issues with it and it provides a decent ride, its no ICON setup...but i'm satisfied with it.
Save your money and do it right the first time with a adjustable coilover suspension. But, if i had to choose, Id go with the 5100 just to level out the ride. You can use them later with the adjustable coilovers and rear springs for a budget lift. That what I did. I wish I had saved my money and gone with a King Suspension set up.
KINGS For The Win!!!!!
I just bought my OME lift from http://www.metaltech4x4.com/productsframeset.htm. I too did not want to go too crazy with the lift, because I use it as my work truck. Installed it in March and I am happy with the results. Ride is stiffer but still comfortable.
TC 3.5" LT with dual Kings up front and the Boztec 16" travel, under development now, in the rear. Most comfy DD you'll ever find and looks cool too.

But seriously, I had the OME 3" for 1.5 years and was very happy, very affordable and easy to install.
