FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Winter is coming and days are shorter meaning we spend more time driving in the dark. My FJ has stock and poor driving lights. I can hardly see anything when driving in the evening. I think I need to upgrade the lights or bulbs.
I started with cleaning the lights. It has not help much. What is the next step ?
I found a suggestion for new bulbs: http://www.shopfjparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_82&product...

I wonder if these would help/give more light. If not, I wonder what are the other options. Can anyone advise ? Thanks.

I recently upgraded my headlight bulbs to the new Philips X-treme Vision bulbs which came out early October 2010. Keep in mind these are different from the Philips X-treme Power bulbs. I read too many bad reviews on the Sylvania Silverstars, although they put out a lot of light I hear they burn out anywhere from 6 months to 1 year, although I think you can get new ones under 1 year warranty. Anyways I also contemplated the Osram Night Breaker Plus, this is the European built version of the Silverstars. But I said what the heck I'm gonna try these new Philips bulbs. I've been VERY satisfied so far. They put out whiter light and wider light beam and farther light beam than the stock bulbs. I got the bulbs from www.powerbulbs.com

Make sure to wear rubber gloves when installing.

I've got pics although not great quality.

nearly six months in...still good, Alvin?

i just burnt out my last spare IPF bulb, at least i couldn't find my other spares if i had them, so i'm looking for new bulbs. no HID conversion for now.

I have a spare set of FJ headlight assembly that I can retrofit with HID projector lens kit kit.
Let me know if you or anyone is interested to try.
I just installed some HIDs for my headlights. I tell ya, they are much brighter than stock and now, I am hitting the roofs of houses! I adjusted them all the way to the lowest setting and they are better, but still very bright and in everyone's rear view mirrors. Now, I am considering having HID offroad lights instead of headlights

I did those same PIAA's that you linked. I really like them

To adjust the headlights, you need a LONG phillips screwdriver. I think the one I bought was 9" long? Once I adjusted them down a little the flashing from other drivers stopped.
