FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hey everyone down in NorCal. Just joined here to check out what FJ folks down in NorCal are up to. I may be, after almost 20 years away, moving back to the Bay Area this summer and would like to hook up with some folks. I met a great group of people up here in the PNW and have been running with the NWFJCC for a year and a half almost. I'd like to just introduce myself and see if there's anything down your way that might be close to what we have up here in our little club. I try to get out wheeling at LEAST once a month or more. Nice thing about the Portland area and the PNW in general is there's dozens of GREAT places to go wheeling within 3 hrs drive. Some less than a half hour. Last time is was down your way I was in high school and didn't do any wheeling so I don't really know much about that neck of the woods as far as places to go. I'll be roaming around this forum a bit trying to get the feeling of who and where you folks are and I hope to meet (and wheel) with some of you folks soon. From what I can see so far, the forum's a great place.

BTW, I'll be out in Moab for Cruise Moab this year. So if any of you folks are headed out there this year, let me know. Maybe we can meet up out there.

Hi, hope to see you on the trails soon.
welcome Ben! you'll be arriving during wheeling season, so you can join us on the runs!

unfortunately, there is not much wheeling in the Bay Area. Hollister is the closest in the south bay and Cow Mountain from the north bay. there are smaller ohv areas like Frank Raines as well.

we usually have 4-5 multi-day excursions during the summer. this summer, we plan to hit the Gold Valley region, Bear Valley area, the High Sierra and a couple others. some of us are planning on attending the Rubithon as well. all are between 3-4 hours away from the Bay Area with the High Sierra run logging in at about 4.5-5 hours away. we'll also be doing Surf N Turf at Oceano Dunes (Pismo Beach) in early November. and there are plenty of socials, install days and recovery clinics scattered between the runs to get to know other members.

looking forward to meeting you and be prepared to pump your own gas! LOL.
That's kinda what I thought. Not much close. I don't mind driving though. Hollister is the only place I could remember people talking about. I've been wanting to run Rubithon for a while now. That's not too long after Cruise moab isn't it? Pismo sounds kinda fun. We've got a bunch of beach dunes up here too.

As for pumping my own gas, I've only been in Portland for a little less than four years and I'm still not used to having someone else do it! hahaha Kinda creaps me out. I'm in WA all the time too, so I still get the chance to pump my own. LOL
Welcome back !! Hell its a great time to buy a house around here !!

X2 on what tater said. Couple of places close but not much, Hollister is great and fun but it is sonly so big.

I live in the Santa Cruz Mtns with redwoods and stuff grown through my decks, That might be like Portland ??

Anyhow welcome back and I look forward to meeting you in person.. you must head out to one of the social events when you arrive..

BOss
Santa Cruz mountains sounds nice. Definitely sounds like the PNW with nice tall trees. Any mountain wheeling out there?
Well there is sort of. Lots of private roads around here. Also lots of state and county parks. SO not as you would hope. Lots of Old fire roads and remote houses so if you do go out you have to wtch for gate..

Also all the hippies tend to look down on off roading in general so I tend to keep it where its legal..
hahaha I know all about the hippies! Oregon is a hippy hell. I keep it all legal here too. It's easy to do up here though.
Yeah we have a special bread up here: Redneck -Hippies.. Damn Redneck got together with the hippies and made little Red/hip babies. Its interesting.. Yeah I guess all of the old school bay area hippies went up north there.. I knew they were nto far.... hehehehe
hahaha wow! yeh, we have a few of those up here too. Not so much here in Portland, but out in the woods. Not to mention all the bureaucrats regulating the heck out of everything up here. Our governor is trying to put GPS tracking devices on our cars so they can tax us by the mile and he's trying to outlaw all aftermarket tires that don't produce optimal MPG! I need to get the hell outta here!
WOW !!!

Is his name Stalin ????

WTF that sucks !! Bet you that governer doesnt pay his taxes either !!!
SO in order to tax more people he is going to kill other business's and looses that tax dollars comming in !! MAN I cannot believe that some of these people get elected !!

Although there is talk of that in this state as well. Damn and people wonder why Live way up in the Mtns !!
Ha! Nope, it Kulingoski. Yeh, I've felt like running to the hills myself a few times. Both of those are just proposals and I don't think either will make it into law. But damn! The shit people think of!
Welcome to the NorCal site Ben, Hope to been seeing you on the trails when you get back to Cali.
