FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I just wanted to introduce myself even though I'm not a  FJ owner, (yet).

I have been a long time Cruiser owner, first one was a 92 FJ80, then we got a 97 FZJ80, and our last was a 98 UZJ100 that we sold last year.  I have been a member of ih8mud since 2003, and have made great friends through tlcwagons.org.  However,  have been away from the scene for a while as my wife had been going to Denver once a month for the past 4 years for medical treatments.  We also took advantage of a employee lease offer on a ML350 through my work.

So far, my favorite trails are  Corral Hollow, Pardoes, Deer Valley, and Strawberry Trail.  Pretty much every trail I've been on I guess!

My parents have a 2010 TT and they have offered it to us to buy.  The ML is nice, but I think it's too fancy for me, and I really miss the 4 wheeling/expedition lifestyle.  According to the Toyota website, comparing it to the ML the FJ has just a bit less cargo room than the ML.  We have a almost 100 lb dog that we need to fit in with all our stuff so I don't know how packed we would be in the FJ.  We drove one a while ago at Folsom Lake Toyota and my wife wasn't very comfortable with the blind spots.

I'm not crazy about the sandstorm color, or the polished bead locks, but it is a great rig, that has never been off-road and has been well maintained, and I'm related to the original owners!!  ;)

My wife and I haven't made the decision yet, and my parents suggested we drive it for a week and see how it works for us.  So I joined last night to look at peoples rigs, see what aftermarket options there are, and get to know the people I might someday be meeting on the trail.

Thanks for the great website!

Welcome to the site, you will deff see many MANY different mods and options for the fj here

RJ

Thanks!  I have already spent most of the night last night and since I've woken up this morning!  My 97 Cruiser was outfitted with an ARB front winch bumper, OME heavy suspension, Kaymar rear bumper, hanna quality sliders, and 285 MTR's.  My parent's already has the factory sliders, and a rear mounted spare, so I can probably cross those off the list for now!  I think if I did get the FJ I would start with just the OME lift and some 285's.

If you do get the FJ check out all possible lifts before you settle on just one OME is decent but you wanna make sure you get what you truley want. I would check out the many threads on suspension here especially on OME just so you have a perfect idea

Welcome!

You already know this, but the FJ is in a totally different (and much better league in my opinion) than the ML. You can go anywhere. After you check out rigs here, I am sure it's going to make you want an FJ more lol. The mods are insane, and some of the photos from people here of the places they go are breathtaking.

In any case, welcome, happy trails, and cheers to you!!

Yeah, thanks!  You're right,  I do know!  I just got a great deal on the lease, and wasn't going to be doing any wheeling for a while, so the ML seemed like a good idea.  It's a comfortable ride, and a great vehicle, but it's just not me.

Hey Joshua, I believe I remember you on the Nor Cal Wagon group posting about selling your 100 and getting the ML.  Welcome to this group!

I will say that the blind spots are something that I have been able to get used to.  I stand 5'3" and I probably drive even more blind than the taller folks who own an FJ.  But, I love it!  I also love my SANDSTORM!  I think all the colors are great and each gives each a different personality, but I must say, being able to go 6-10 months without washing is nice as well as the fact that pinstriping from the manzanita in California really doesn't show a whole lot.

Yeah, that was me!! I'm ready for a Cruiser again, and have been looking at getting another 97, but I also have an opportunity to own a 2010 TT.  I might have seen you too, are you Trisha Lee?

Thanks for your input on owning one, I'll pass it on to my wife! ;)

Yes, that's me. Derek is my brother...the moderator.

Welcome to he site

Thanks Boss!  It's a good rainy Sunday to spend looking at FJ's online again!!

Howdy!

We all seem to love our FJs.  Not knowing your situation, the only hesitation I would have, is if I had small children (i.e., child seat age).  Although I cannot speak from experience with the FJ, I can speak due to three sons and more grandkids than names I can sometimes remember.  When we take the real young ones, we take our Highlander.

Sandstorm is a great color.  When I bought mine, there was a silver, black, and sandstorm on the lot too, and it was a coin toss for me to choose.

Okay, so it's been a while since I started this post, but instead of buying my parent's 2010 TT, we just swapped so I gave them the ML for the remaining 2 years of my lease and they gave me the FJ!  After the 2 years is up, I can return the ML, and get something else, or they may decide to buy the ML, and I can keep the FJ, that's all down the road.  The important thing is I now have a Toyota to wheel with and we can get back into our old lifestyle!!  I really wanted to go to Hollister yesterday to meet everyone, and had the day off, but was sick.  We used to live in Gilroy and I was at Hollister all the time.  It's been over 6 years since I've been there.

So, how do I buy a sticker for the FJ?  I didn't see any under the "shop" link?
