After sitting idle for the past several months, I headed up to Iron Mountain Rd today. Located east of Placerville / Sly Park Exit.  Snow was found just a few miles up from the lake.

Snow was decent, any stock Toyota can pass with little difficulty. Low ground cleareance will pose a few challenges as deep snow will eventually force you to break out a shovel and or a tow strap.

On this Presidents Day, I found a few snow  campers along the trail and a few casual wheelers up to enjoy the sun and snow.  It was warm, about 50 degrees.

We went up Sunday to the same spot. Great weather. We made it all the way to Virginia City (after we played in the snow on the trail). It was dead everywhere. Reno was no to busy, but Cabelas was packed. Came home the westside of the lake. Long drive, no one on the road, Cabelas parking lot had 6 FJs (including ours), great dinner (had a whole room to ourselves on V-Day.

Looks like you had fun!
Well i'm sold... i know where i'm going this weekend :-D
Esty, I think I have a Moab meeting this Sat. (I through that in because it sounds cool) but if I don't I'd like to join you.
No probs, my plans aren't to solid either. I just wanted to check out the road and see how good the snow coverage is.
Yep Got a meeting this Sat. I may shoot for the first week end in March.
I think I unintentionally took this trail trying to get to Kirkwood. Freaking GPS. Still it looked like fun, just alone it's a little scary.

Yep thats it, try it during a snow storm.....even better.
