Hollister Difficulty

Hey sorry if this is kind of a newbie question but i am pretty new to wheeling and i took my fj to carnegie recently and did most of the stuff at the 4x4 play area but didnt want to try too much in case anything happened. my Fj is super stock except for some aesthetic changes.

How difficult is hollister hills? I had a friend total his truck there but i know you guys go there a lot and do it with ease. is the Upper Ranch a lot easier than the Lower? what do you guys think is easy or a "bunny slope" for me to do?

I went with Bz and the rest of the crew to the Newbie day at hollister and I had a blast. I also have a super stock FJ but the one thing I really learned was just being there and testing your rig out can be just as fun as watchin the skid plate/rock rail/lifted guys. There is a lot there for every level. You might be able to find some guys to go with you, which is always better. You mentioned you didnt want to do too much in case anything happened... but thats why going with people (especially experienced people like Bz and Boz whom did some trail surgery that day) is so much better. Put it out there, you might be able to get together another newbie day...

hmm yeah another newbie day or something would sound like a lot of fun. i do use my FJ as my daily commuter and my parents would kill me if it got messed up. im fairly busy with basketball all the time but ill definitely try and find a good weekend to set one up

Hollister Hills caters to the super stock to the super modified and everything in between. I ran my FJ stock there for a year before I decided what my first mod was going to be. It's a great place to learn what your truck will do in a fairly controlled environment. But You always have to watch what your doing because things can get out of hand quickly if you are not paying attention.

Just to clarify the Upper Ranch is just for 4x4's and the lower Ranch is just motorcycles.

always good to head out with others. although the easy trails are like fire trails, there are some drop offs and people have rolled off them.

If you guys do a newbie day I would be all over it. I've wanted to go to hollister since I moved back, but for the same concerns as you I have decided to hold off....

You can have a lot of fun at HH in a stock vehicle - intermediate trails are no trouble for a stock FJ. The obstacle courses are doable too, but you need ax experienced spotter to help guide you.

Just to clear up one thing from the original post ... The lower ranch is for trail bikes; 4x4s are not allowed. The upper ranch is for 4x4s only.

I was aiming to head to the Tread Lightly event at HH this last weekend, but I spent the past few days sick instead. So I'd definitely be up for another HH day.

BZ, I'd be up for a Hollister day for the people who can't attend summit this year. Anybody else down?
