FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Recently got myself a sweet FJ. I live in East Bay and would love to start doing some trail trips. I shoot photography as a hobby and you can see some of my work here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/shotsbyjacob/  if you are interested.

Interesting story on the name of my FJ (Zelda). I used to have a Mercedes (Heidi) I loved that car, sadly I had to put her down, expenses with some problems were going to be very high. I was going to upgrade to a newer version of my CLK but thought I would shop around. I always liked the idea of going where I wanted when I wanted and stated to look at a 4x4 SUV. I was not sure exactly what I wanted. One morning driving to work a yellow FJ drove through the intersection I was stopped at. I said "oh yeah, FJs, I should look at those too" Got to work and started doing some research. I watched a couple you tube videos of what these things were capable of and I was HOOKED! I decided I would be an FJ owner. I have had my Zelda for about a month now. When coming up with a name for her, I thought back to my Mercedes, I really loved that car, so in her honor I was going to name my FJ something fierce but German. Plenty of names came to mind that were appropriate. Although I love every line on my FJ lets face it, she is no beauty contest winner, and coming from my coupe (named after Heidi Klum) I had to come up with something that would say "I am an ugly bitch but I will always be there to get you outta trouble" I was about to name her Helga, and my Fiance said "Zelda". First thought was, "that isn't German" followed by " that's a boys name" Turns out I was wrong twice (getting used to it) It is German and it is the princess from the Zelda game (Link was the little dude). Anyways, the more I said it the more I felt it appropriate, (as a kicker, Zelda was a Japanese game which is my manufacturer, win win). So there ya have it. Zelda and I would like to get our feet wet soon, we are looking forward to the camaraderie I am sure we will find on this forum. Thanks for reading.

Hahah that's a great name!  Thanks for sharing your story.  Coincidentally, I was in the same boat.  I owned a BMW 3 series coupe for 10 years and she (her name was Becca) was getting more expensive to maintain.  In search of a new vehicle, I wanted something more rugged, able to handle off-road, and carry all of my outdoor junk.  I was fascinated with the FJ for quite a while and did extensive research before committing to the purchase.  I got my car one day before Halloween last year and boy was I grinning on my drive back home.  I'm super new to 4-wheeling.  I haven't gone on any trials nor mod my car yet.  My new car is named "Flex" by the way.  Welcome to the site!
