NorCal FJs

FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hello,

I don't have an FJ... yet but, I will soon.

A little about myself, I'm an Engineer for the phone company, my main function is to design and implement Microwave Radio equipment at remote Radio Sites all over Northern CA and some parts of SoCal and Nevada. This involves off road driving up to the radio sites. This is where I have learned to enjoy off road driving, where I learned to use a winch, and where I learned to respect the land.

I've been doing this for over a decade in the same company provided Chevy Blazer 4x4 and have been impressed with it's abilities... I can only imagine what an FJ can do.

I guess I can be called a Toyota fan too... My first car was a Corolla and through the last 20 years I have owned a 4Runner, a MKIV Supra, a Sequoia, and a Lexus IS300.

I first drove an FJ at Cal Expo during the Autoshow a couple years ago. Toyota had a little off road course set up and the FJ made me grin from ear to ear. "One day" I told myself.

First learned about NorCal FJ from a sticker on a black FJ parked at a Starbucks in San Ramon.

As I stated, I do not own an FJ yet but, I am ready to purchase one now and am actively looking. There's a 2012 in Calvary Blue at the closest dealer to my house and after checking it out, it's a really cool color. But, I'm looking for pre-owned as well. I have my eye on a couple Trail Teams... But, trying to weigh the pros and cons of new or used.

Thanks for allowing me to introduce myself,

John

Welcome John. Let me know how I can get into your line of work. :-)
To be honest, I didn't really plan to do what I'm doing now... when I started with the company, the gentleman who had Radio Operations for CA got promoted and no one wanted the responsibility. I... fresh out of college... degree in hand and FCC amateur license in hand... volunteered. Most of my peers didn't want to be out in the field while, I didn't want to get stuck behind a desk all day. I consider myself very lucky to do what I do.

Howdy!

Welcome to the site.  Sounds like a pretty cool gig that you have, being able to offroad as part of your commute!  It sounds like the FJ will be a perfect vehicle for you.  Hopefully we will see you out on the trails soon!
Thank you, I wish I had a company provided FJ for my radio trips! The FJ is strictly a personal rig, I can't take a personal rig up to the sites. As for trails... yes!
Hey John,
Pleasure to meet you! I'm an RF Engineer at a wireless design company out of San Ramon! Pleasure to meet you!
