Has anyone done the Ghost Town Loop into Bodie?  Trying to plan a weekend trip but would like some info on how the ride is and what is to be expected. Is there camping along the way or is this something that would be easy to do in a day trip?

ive driven down the dirt road to Bodie. but i never did the loop. i would think its just a dirt road or something.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, didn't know if there was anything unexpected or different routes you get split off to. Seems like it would make for an easy weekend trip.

I haven't done the Bodie to Bridgeport route yet. I have done the road heading south out of Bodie to Pole Line Road heading back to Lee Vining. Just a dirt road, well graded. Nothing special. Much like the road off 395, only longer.

I have also gone from Bodie east up over the hill to Hawthorne, Nevada during the 2013 Ghost Town tour.

On the main road out of Bodie to the north toward Bridgeport, it started out as a really good graded road, and got narrower as we went up into a canyon, single lane in some places as I recall, but all easily passable.

After we turned off it to go east over the hill, there was only one spot that was a little sporty due to a washout, but I was fine in my stock suspension. There were 2-3 cool places we stopped along that road.

Check the trip report in the blue room site above. The night before Bodie, the folks camped near Lee Vining and they seemed to really like it. (I met them on the road into Bodie the next day as they headed there.)

It would be fun to do the Bodie-Bridgeport route someday. Write something up afterward to inspire me! ;-)

Thanks Yose this is some good info. Still haven't worked out all the dates yet but this looks like it could be a fairly easy cool tip!

I've been wanting to check that place out!

Just took this route over the 4th with a member from the Vegas FJs. Took Masonic rd to Chemung mine, Masonic and on to Bodie. Full day trip. Also hit the Log Cabin Mine above Lee Vining which is a must see.

Did you guys camp anywhere?

He and his wife had room at June Lake so i just "camped" in the hotel parking lot. There is some camping at Masonic off the main road down by the stream, never camped there but it looks like a nice area and would break up the trip so you are not driving all day. I've also camped at Lundy Lake which is nice. June Lake is more commercialized but they do have a brewery that just opened up which i recommend also.

Great thanks for the info. Haven't been able to lock in a weekend to do this yet, but going to work on fitting it in this summer. A brewery is always an added bonus!!!
