I would like to learn the art of fly fishing. I don't have the rod/reel yet either, but I don't know where to start, what to get and not to get, what's garbage, etc... The only thing I have is a pair of waders handed down to me.
Is there anyone here I can hit up (maybe via phone or in person) to help out? Any advice would be appreciated. I'd like to get a a setup going and start doing it instead of dreaming of doing it. Thanks everybody.

AGREED!
I've already had a handful of people at my newer place of employment ask me to take them fishing (not fly).
Sonof40,
If I should remember, your in the Folsom area?? Going to be there tomorrow and Wednesday. Thinking about heading to Folsom Lake with my dog to drop a few lines in the water. Are you interested?
Not too interested in lakes but thanks. More of a river and stream guy.
I live in San Ramon.
Don't forget to invite the newbie please!!! hahahahahha
Thanks Kurt!!
I signed up for the free class at Orvis already. I'm on board with spending the least for my first kit too!! In fact, I still use the original rod/reel for fishing that I've had for years. The sales rep at Orvis told me the same thing you just did too (to go for an all inclusive cheap kit).
I appreciate your input too!! AND I TOTALLY AGREE. It is an art. I out fish my friends with my cheapo rod/reel, but this is after years of practice and making mistakes.
