FJ Cruisers of Northern California
Hi all, its with great sadness that I report my FJ died yesterday. While coming back to the bay from Dodge Ridge (off highway 108) the FJ lost control at about 50-55 MPH and went into a spin. During the spin I went accross the highway and hit a tree head on, this ricocheted the truck down the side of a mountain. We rolled over once and luckily lodged up against another tree.
The truck did exactly what it was supposed to; the engine compartment crumpled, but the cabin was unscratched, all the airbags went off, none of the windows broke and all the doors opened. Luckily me and my buddy were able to walk away with just a few bumps and strains.
I don't know if I'll get another FJ even though I'm convinced its the safest trucks out there. Looking into a 4 runner. I never got to meet any of you in person but feel as if we've all been friends for a long time.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I'm not sure if it was black ice or not. The truck was still running after we finally stopped rolling. I turned the truck off right away and didn't try to restart it. I loved my FJ and will miss it dearly but think the 4Runner is probably better suited for my needs at the moment although, yes, they are expensive.
The insurance adjuster hasn't gotton out there yet. If I make it out there before them, does anyone need any parts that the insurance company won't miss? i.e. floor mats, cargo mat, arm rest, etc? Let me know and i'll try to get those things out of the truck. If you have spare rims and tires you could probably even swap them for the powder coated rims and tires that have less than 1,000 miles on them...
All weather floor mats? Passenger armrest? The little thumb screw that holds the passenger side kick panel to to the firewall (lost mine :-))
Speaking of your truck did you ever order/install your lift you had been talking about?
I need a driver's side back set release button. You know, the button on top of the back seat that you push when you put the seats down. Not sure how I lost mine...Thanks
I know the feeling of losing an FJ. It sucks!
Glad you are ok, your accident looked pretty nasty.
