FJ Cruisers of Northern California

BillMichaels here. Finally decided to give posting a try. I got my 2012 FJ on the first boatload from Japan after the tsunami. I'm the only one to wrench on it since the day I picked it up. This changed last week when I took it in for the seatbelt recall and driveshaft TSB. The service writer couldn't believe that I passed up the free oil changes. I'm looking forward to future wrenching and a couple more mods.

Welcome Bill.

Ditto on the "I'm the only one who's ever touched my FJ" thing. More fun, more knowledge and less money.

Welcome!

Welcome onboard. I do my oil changes too. Actually the free ones would amount to a total of 2 and only cost me $42 with synthetic oil anyway; read my post on "What did you do today".

What is the driveshaft tech bulletin? Have not heard of that. Got my seatbelt anchors done last year.

Steve- There is a TSB for 2007 - 2012 for a clunk feeling as you stop or take off from a stop. It feels like a bowling ball loose in your trunk. Doesn't happen all the time. New driveshaft designed and used to replace the bad ones.

Thanks, I looked it up yesterday and have an appointment for Monday after work to drop the FJ off.

They have to do "some tests" to see if it needs this work. Then order the part from SF, ought to be done by Wednesday. Mine exhibits that clunk occasionally, seems to be worse after a long stop at a light rather than a short stop at a stop sign.

Glad you mentioned the tsb, I had no idea .

Your welcome. It happened more when I came to a harder stop than normal. Sit for a 45 second red light then let off. Go on the test drive with service writer and hold out until it happens. Most dealerships don't stock the improved driveshaft.

They have the FJ Tuesday and will report. Parts are in SF for a Wednesday fix if necessary. I cant be taking time off work to wait till they are ready to test drive it. Buying the driveshaft would be cheaper. Plus we are really busy at work, getting time off would be a problem.  Got to let them do their thing. If they turn me down I can escalate it to zone rep etc. I will let you know how it turns out. I appreciate your info and input on this.

Steve.
