FJ Cruisers of Northern California

While driving my FJ (at any particular speed) I'm noticing that when I have the accelerator slightly depressed I'm feeling a vibration that seems to be coming from the motor. Once I let off or give it more gas it stops. Anyone know what this could possibly be? I'm also only averaging 13-14 mpg highway at the moment and I'm thinking that whatever vibration I'm feeling may be playing some part in that. Air cleaner is clean, spark plugs changed in june, and tire pressure is good.

Thanks,

Daniel

Go start your truck and pop your hood. Check to see if there is any oscilation in the drive belt around any of the pulleys. I had a bad pulley/shaft on my alternator and it was causing the belt to oscilate bad. When it was happening, there was a very unsettling vibration I could feel.

Just something to check.
I checked for oscilation and everything looks good.
Maybe run some fuel injector cleaner in your next tank of gas.  (addressing lower mpg's)
how many miles are on it?
62,xxx
change out your spark plugs yet?
I changed them about 10k miles ago... Denso iridium plugs
Check for cracks at the engine mounts. Its been known to happen.
yup it happened to me and a few others
So im noticing that it happens when it's in the highest gear (I have a automatic tranny) mostly between 40-50mph but sometimes slower, with the gas pedal only slightly depressed... It's kinda weird

It's the transmission, I would guess it is doing it when the vehicle shifts between 3-4  and 4-5. Mine is doing the same thing. It happens when your just going really easy, it has been spoken about over on FjCruiserforums. It has been cured by doing a complete tranny flush,or a new converter, and also a complete transmission replacement. Im trying to get mine done before my extended warranty runs out. Mine feels like I'm driving on a bumpy road when it happens. Good luck

Thats exactly the feeling. I don't wanna have to replace my tranny since my warranty is out.... Seems like the tranny is shifting fine, just the shaking is a very uneasy feeling. Maybe I'll try the tranny flush! How long has yours been doing this for? Did you try the tranny flush?
