Just thought i would post this because some members asked about the cell phone holder i made.i made a template of the base out of thin cardboard and then traced it onto a scape piece of ABS plastic i had in the garage from another project and cut.then i took the Motorola suction mount for the windshield and cut off the suction part off.that gave me a short curved arm with the pivot ball and cradle.I then heated the ABS base with torch and then placed it on dash where i wanted it and let it cool .I then placed the cut arm to the ABS base i cut and secured it with epoxy putty.molded and sanded to the shape i wanted and then painted black and then mounted to the dase with double side tape.I also ran the power plug into the dash and wired it so it always charging even without key.sorry i didn't take pics while building. Hopefully these pics sorta show what i did.

That's pretty sweet bro!

Thanks cowboy :)

Slick!

I wonder who asked you :)

Seriously, can you elaborate on "molded and sanded to the shape i wanted".

Also, I like the right side best, because I am not left-handed. I think you said the one on the right did not come out as good as expected, because you used a different process.

My question: do you think it make sense to heat and wrap arounf the ABS to a pipe (with a diameter maybe slightly less than the curved part of the dashboard so it can "snap" on it?

Also: where can I buy ABS? All epoxy is good? What kind of torch did you use? I have never fabricated with ABS.

I hope I can find a mount that works with the "iphone" they gave me at work.

Manoweb in picture #2 shows how the arm from the base tapers.the epoxy putty is just like play dough and molded around the arm and base.i dont know how to describe more.after molding it to the the shape i then took some really fine sand paper so i could paint.i think if you get the supplies and start fabrication you will see its pretty easy.or buy the supplies and come to my place i will help you.let me know hope this helps
I'm right handed too but i wanted on left.personal preferences. Make sure epoxy putty not just epoxy. Tap plastic is where i got the abs ask to see there scraps alot cheaper.the torch i used was a simple propane torch.you could use a smaller pipe to snap on but i wanted the exact curve of the dash.the mount on the right i really like but made that all out of fiberglass pain in ass and took week to make.this phone holder i made in 45min.you probably could even use a high power blow dryer to heat.

I will go to tap plastics, there is one near San Mateo. But, I will have to see if there is a mount for the "iphone" first

Dude! Your super talented! That shit looks like it came right out of box! It's super professional!!

Lol :) thanks Dom but i could have sanded a little more and a couple more coats of paint
Manoweb i think the abs i used was only 1/8 thick you don't need something thick.and the thicker you go the harder it will be to mold to dash.
