Hi! I was talking about the Cobb Grill with the Boss ;) he gave me precious advice.

First of all: I got my Cobb Grill few days ago and I tested it on Saturday. I made a Tri-tip. I probably cooked it a little too much, or I used too much charcoal, because it was a little dry. What is the best way to use it? I know several people have the Cobb Grill here, what is the best recipe you have found? I'd like to try lamb roast next time...

My shipment did not include the recipe book: anything interesting there?

So nobody has the Cobb recipe book?

i do. you can copy it for $500.00.

Hi! First of all, why don't we negotiate over dinner? ;) When are you available?

Back to the book: is it a good one? Many recipe books are not even worth copying, in the best case one can find the same recipes online, in the worst the recipes are just plain wrong. In this case however the Cobb Grill is a unique cooking system and it might be worth getting the book... but Cobb has already many videos online, so I am very debated if I should get the book. If I could give a look at it before buying it would be ideal...

If it could be of interest to anyone, I got the Cobb Grill from Amazon, the price was almost 40 dollars less! The Cobb accessories are very expensive, I was wondering if somebody found a suitable "roasting rack" at the dollar store instead of paying 25$ for the original one...

I don't have one but watching others use theirs, when camping.  Recipes are the same as grilling.  Here are a couple sites I found if you are looking for Cobb specific instructions:

Dry huh...

How long did you wait after you took it off the grill to cut it open ?  It's always good to let it rest for about ten minutes or so  to let the tri-tip rest. If you pull it off the grill and slice it open right away all the juice will be lost and you end up with a dry tri-tip.

I normally cook a Tri-Tip for about 40 min but it all depends on the size of the Tri-Tip and what your cooking it on, so this is a rough average because I also like mine more pink on the inside . If you can keep the temp low and get more smoke to cook the meat it will always come out better, as the smoke tends to get inside to add more flavor. This is one reason people choose different types of wood to cook with as you can get a new flavor depending on what type of wood you cook with.

Of course with the Cobb, at best you could just put some wood chips on top the small fire pit, just throw some chips right on the hot coals.

Just keep using it and cooking on it as I also believe the more you cook on it the more seasoned it can get which will just add to the flavor.

Hi! Well I did wait ten minutes with the meat enclosed in aluminum foil. It was I think an average tri-tip... but I cooked it for one hour and a half... too much it seems!

Thanks for the advice, I will try again.

Yes that sounds too long to cook.

So today I made a tri-tip with the Cobb Grill at Bozly's. Apparently people liked it, and I think it was my best so far.

As it was still a little frozen, I left it on for about an hour, then I put on some seasoning and then I let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

Has anybody tried these:

They seem quite convenient, there is no need to starter and should be perfect for camping trips where you do not want to haul around a lot of stuff.

How well do they work? Anybody has tried them? What I am concerned about is that on the lokkii website they advertise their stuff as "organic" (seriously? charcoal?) and "made from recycled wood". This worries me because recycled wood might have paint on it or other nasty stuff.

As an official taster of the tri-tip, the verdict is in.......EXCELLENT!

I will second that verdict!
