CB tuning?
So I got a CB radio and everything, but I need to tune it and don't know exactly how or what I need.
Does anyone know how and have the right tools? I was thinking maybe I could tune it up at the Hollister run next Saturday or something...

You will need an SWR meter. When you do tune it be sure your not under trees and or big buildings.

I found one at a local truck stop for like 20 bucks, so I'm just gonna go pick it up. Might as well buy one since my buddy is getting a CB and will need to tune his as well.

Not sure if you are using the Bandi mount, but if you are its good to scrape out the mounting hole for mounting bolt. There is a bunch of paint in there and I had a hard time getting a good ground.
If you not using the bandi then you should be good to go.

I have the same mount as you. I remember you said something like this in another post so I took your advice and scraped off the paint. I'm not receiving anything and someone told me the antenna needs to be tuned. I bought a little SWR tuner that tests power and some other stuff. It was like 40 bucks, but I can return it once I'm done with it.

If you can receive weather channels, your antenna is at least wired okay. If not, and you have NO signal incoming, then check your connections and continuities. The big problem with Bandi's is getting a good ground. Take time to test continuity to a known ground point on the truck.

Ok so I started tuning the CB and everything, but I have no idea what's going on. The CB says it's transmitting, but my tuner has a power meter and it says I'm only pushing a half of a watt through the antenna (the CB has a 4 watt max), so when I transmit, it doesn't go far. I cleaned up the bandi mount reallyyy well and took off some paint where the mount touches the rear door hinge (so I don't think it's a grounding problem).
Someone know what the heck is going on?

At least one of several things:
1) You may have a bad short in your coax connection. Check for continuity on both the outer and inner conductor of the coax, all the way from the plug to the antenna. Also check that there is not a short between the outer and inner coax by checking absence of continuity between the inner and outer connectors on your PL-259 plug at the back of the radio.
2) You may have a bad ground at the Bandi mount. I had problems with this at first. Make sure you have clear metal-to-metal between the antenna and the bandi, and also between the bandi nut and the door hinge (you will need to remove the paint from the door hinge too, around the nut).
3) Very bad SWR can reduce transmission power. Make sure to adjust your SWR so that you get the reading at channel 1 and 40 as close as possible. (by the way, what is your SWR reading right now?)
4) There could be something wrong with the radio, the antenna or the coax (although this is the least likely of all 4 possibilities).
Stay with it, but be very deliberate and methodical. Good luck!

if you are not in a hurry, drop by the next Install Day. we usually have one once a quarter. we haven't scheduled one for this quarter as of yet due to SnT and such, but will most likely occur sometime in December.

Ok, let me know when that happens. I have 30 days to return this tuner, so hopefully it'll be before the 22nd.
