FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Here's the deal: I need some welding done on my FJ. I'm trying to build a frame for an auxiliary fuel tank. This would involve some angle iron and flat plate steel (to create a skid plate). We wouldn't be welding to the frame but instead creating a "box" for the fuel cell to sit in. The box would then be mounted to the frame through existing holes, grade 8 bolts and flat plate steel. I have a plan but I just don't know how to weld or have the equipment to learn.

After this is complete, I will have a stock filler tube that could be modified if someone else wanted to do this to their vehicle.

FYI: for those who are thinking of doing this - It cost about $400-500 without welding (or steel) and filler tube. It's not cheap. The benefit would be an additional 17 gallons of fuel.

To me this is a worthy project and worth the money. I have put a lot of time into this over the past....year or so. I'll be happy to share what I know with anyone who's interested.

Peter you might want to get a hold of 5150 and ask him about electrical wiring...
I have the tools you are looking for and know a very little bit about wiring if it is not to complex. What are you wiring?

I may be busy this weekend depending on if I go on the El Dorado trail run. The next weekend would be open.

I am not a good welder, but we may be able to tack things together and get most of the alignment work done. You can then have someone who knows what they are doing finish it up.
Do you have a time and place set yet?
If I can come, I have a welder. But you'll want a real welding person to do the work. I don't trust my skills except on my own projects.
No time or place yet. I hope to have something set up by Thursday.

I can't weld either.
Since I haven't heard any new info I am going to commit to another activity for Saturday (5/30.) Please let me know if you need the welder at another time. Also BTW my welder is a MIG and I don't have CO2 so it can get messy. Someone who can weld will probably have their own. BUT I would be happy to help any way I can so please don't hesitate to ask.
You are the man Steve! :bigthumb: ....well second to your Thai Island =D
OK I was going to let this go but now I must speak. It was "TI" Island (as in Titanium) not Thai. Now I can sleep. Vince may yet be voted off (if I could find those Tiki Torches)
I thought the fuel filler neck would have been here today (Friday) but go figure, it hasn't arrived. I've been waiting on this f@#k%^g part now for over a month. I'm P.O'd.

Screw it, I'm going to the Eldorado forest tomorrow with dheigher. See you there.
