Metal -Tech is great..  Very nice stuff there and great people to deal with

 

I have also have good dealing with Slee offroad. they make slider strps and are pretty cool

I would put a vote in for 4x4 Labs Luke is local to NorCal up Grass Valley and a hell of a nice guy.

 

Your friend should be digging through ih8mud forums it is the center of the LandCruiser univers for 40,60,80 Land Cruisers.

Besides ih8mud as opg4759 recommended, tell your buddy to look for a local group out here...TLCA official, or not.  There is a very dedicated community of FZJ80 owners out here in the Bay and Sacto areas.
