FJ Cruisers of Northern California

What a weekend! Here's the report -
We had planed to run Barney Riley inbound on Friday and camp at the end, but with Ebbetts Pass closed on Saturday for a bike race called the 'Death Ride,' we were forced to do the trail inbound and outbound in the same afternoon in order to return to the west side of Ebbetts before the road closed so that we could meet up with those coming up for the day to run Deer Valley south to north. The change of plans worked out though and we ended up camping at Hermit Valley right at the Deer Valley trail head. BR is a great trail with the major obstacle being a steep hill climb on loose rock. Other than that its pretty mellow and very scenic. It was a nice warm up for Deer Valley which was more difficult that I had anticipated. We had 9 rigs. I was the only stock...and being stock the trail was quite difficult. For those considering running this trail stock, be ready to scrape alot. In the end, the trail took longer than expected, about 6.5 hrs from Hermit Valley to Blue Lakes. Because of two longer than expected days on the trail, most opted out of the Strawberry run. Props goes to Vaughn and 5and5torm for doing all three trails in one weekend! I hope one of you who ran strawberry will post about the trail!

Thanks to everyone who showed up. It was great meeting some new faces and seeing old friends. Thanks to 5and5torm for the great breakfasts, Pkelly for his fire house chili, Vaughn and Jo for the vegis, fruit and food prep supplies, and Mrs. Bozly for the desserts and imported bevs! A huge thanks to Potato, PBnFJ, OPG, Sbechtold and 5and5torm for spotting everyone through safely. I hope everyone had as much fun as I had!

Please share your pics, vids and stories here!

What a weekend, I made it home last night at 8:00. I'm pretty sure I managed to bend a tie-rod coming down BR w/ the break away group. Oh well, time for heavy-duty tie rods and ends.
Deer Valley was awesome, I look fwd to doing that one again, I'll be sure to bring loads of mosquito repellant.
Strawberry had some beautiful views and a couple of challenging spots. The rock squeeze was the toughest only because of the high probability of body damage. Spotting rigs through there was a bit stressful. The rock gardens were not too bad, but we had to do a lot of rock stacking to get the stocker through.

Rookie of the run award goes to...
Mrs. Bozly caught on quick and did an awesome job, she will enjoy her new FJ immensely. Boz, it's Subaru time for you.

I will post photos & video soon. thanks to all that came out.
You did a great job spotting! We like our new tattoo! Hope e-one else likes theirs as well hehe!
Thanks to you for all your help and great lines. They were easy to follow and I think by the time we finished I finally was able to read some lines myself and get through them. Appreciation for the extra help goes to all. I will be sure to let Bozly know as he is out of communication until next weekend. Looking forward to some great pics/film.
Mrs Bozly - My own page coming soon
Mr. Bozly might wanna check out www.ultimatesubaru.com now that the Mrs has claimed the FJ!
Thanks to 5and5storm and Esty for all of their spotting. A good spotter makes the hard parts go much easier.

If anyone is planning to go through this trail, I would suggest that you go with three trucks and four or more people. You can see from the pictures the effort it took not to leave paint on the one big rock. That effort was required whether the vehicle was lifted or not.

It was a good time, thanks again for the help getting the "lowrider" through.
FYI-

Don't tell your pregnant wife to hurry up and give birth because you want to go on a run (slick rock).
LOL! as long as you didn't tell her that i was trying to convince you to join that run, i think it's funny. :-)
i had a blast! loads of thanks to Benjie for organizing this run. it was nice to sit back and enjoy a run for once and it went off without a hitch. Deer Valley is definitely one of my fave trails now. if it hadn't been for those pesky mosquitos, it would have been a perfect day. most importantly, it was great seeing everyone pitch in to help each other out...that's what NorCal FJ trail runs are about! have fun with the Subaru Boz!
