FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I've never been off roading and would like to try some lights trails, but would feel more comfortable taking a class.  Any recommendations?  Or would anyone want to go on a trail with me Hollister?  I heard thats a good place to start.

The best school is probably just get out on a mild trail with someone more experienced and try out the vehicle and see what it can do. It can do quite a bit even in stock form.

NorCalFJs has just adopted the Long Canyon Trail (3-4 hours from SJ). It is a good learning trail. There are many others as well.

Look for a trail with a rating of about 3 to maybe 4.

Post up a trail run and I am sure someone will come along.

You could hire BZ as a trail guide, he is a very experienced wheeler.
try Esprit de Four. we can do a ride-along clinics as well.

I would be interested in ride a long clinics; when I know my schedule I'll post up a trail run.  Thanks guys!

Here is another upcoming opportunity...October 20-23 is the Overland Rally at Hollister Hills OHV. A few of us NorCal FJC folks are attending. They have 4wheeling workshops for all levels. Last year I went with a day pass. This year I'm camping and staying for the weekend. IMHO, it is a great event with a great atmosphere. Check out the event page: http://norcalfjs.com/events/overland-rallies-and-workshop

My suggestion to you is that if you don't go through a professional course but go out with other wheelers ( which is how i started) the most important thing is to know who you are wheeling with and be sure you trust them. There are occasional meet and greet events set up through this forum. See ya on the trails (or perhaps the next meet and greet)!
