CHP Chopper Rescues 6 From Fordyce River
SUV Trapped In Swift Water

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. -- Six people and a dog were rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter after a sport utility vehicle was stranded in the swift-moving waters of the Fordyce River in the Sierra, authorities said.

The CHP received a report at 5:45 p.m. Monday that a Toyota FJ Cruiser was stuck in the river downstream from Fordyce Lake, located in Nevada County.

When the chopper arrived, the Toyota was about to be overtaken by rising water, the CHP said.

The helicopter, piloted by Officer Steve Ward and Flight Officer Marty Martain, managed to rescue two adults, four children and the dog from the roof of the vehicle.

The group scrambled to the top of the SUV to escape the chilly water.

The helicopter took the group to Blue Canyon, where they were turned over to the Nevada County Sheriff's Department.

hmmm I am going to guess that was a not very smart driver..
lot of stuff posted about that one on Pirate and some on the blue room.
What about the Fj? Was it rescued? At least they have a tow strap...
Yeah they got the FJ out, Want peeves me is there are 5 belts in the Fj and 6 passengers plus the dog.
he had added a third row in the FJ's cargo area...

Well I see then, enough belts for everyone. Still feel for his family.
I'm glad no one was hurt, but not a smart driver at all.

Everyone knows that you do not drive into the water without scoping it out first.
Driver not very smart...
Gotta feel a little bad for the guy...takes his family out for a memorial day run, makes a few mistakes that end up putting his family at risk and destroying his beloved FJ. Then he gets absolutely crucified on pirate and the blue room. Thank god he and his family made it out of the situation. It sure could have been a lot worse. Definately a good reminder to take necessary safety precautions.
No to be perfectly honest with you I do not feel bad for him at all. I take my family 4wheeling all the time and when they are with me there are things I will not even try to do at Hollister. IMO the guy broke several rules when you go 4wheeling. I can only assume that he went out there alone. He did not know how deep that water was before he crossed it. It seems to me that he put his family in harms way by his own ignorance.

I am glad that no one was hurt and that they all made it home safe and sound. But it makes all of us FJC owners look bad and that we don't know what we are doing when there is major media coverage all over the place.

And worse still its another video and pics for the enviro nazi's to use to close trails down on ALL of us.
People need to drive with in their skill levels and more importantly with in their truck limitation...

I just want everyone to understand that this is the kind of stuff that is used as ammo to close down trails and this is why people need to learn the right way to 4wheel.

Sorry to rant i will get off my soap box now....
