FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hey guys,

I am thinking about getting as set of 315/75/16 (roughly 35s).  I have read in some places that once you hit the 35 inch threshold, you might run into re-gearing issues.  Is this true?  I really dont know much about it and if that is the case then I will just go with the 33's.  Also, I was planning on getting a Radflo complete 3inch coilover lift.  Not even sure if it will fit the 35's.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.  I guess i will go with 33's that way it will be cheaper! Also, the Toytec website sells the Radflo complete coilover kit for a little cheaper than that site i think.

It's a different set up on Toytec.  Overland Warehouse has proprietory valving.

Sorry stupid question, but is that better?  Just kind of confused now on which one to get.  Thanks

The overland warehouse kit is valved specifically for the fj/4runner and it features radflo front and back, I've been running this kit since December 2009. The toytec is just radflos in the front and bilsteins In the back and there is no tailored valving for the fj

Get ready for tons of aggressive trimming and body mount chopping.  will have to give me a call some time if you are interested in all that it really takes to run these tires.

And .. yes regear ...

Ya that doesnt sound fun on my wallet!  I think 33's will be just fine for me!  Thanks for the offer though
I got 35s with a 6" procomp coil over lift.. Can't really compare it to how it used to drive.. Cuz I got it that way.. Do I need to change the gear ratio?
If you went 456 gears you'd gain some pep back and better mileage. You can go 488 too but IMO that is too tall of a gear.
Anyone know of a shop in the east bay that have re-geared FJ's in the past? Any recommendations would be great. Thanks!
I can do help ya out I have Removed and Replaced (R&R) the diffs several times and we have a Gear guy in Concord who does great work
To re-gear to 456 what's the cost (parts/labor)?  What parts are needed?  Any recommendations?  I've been debating the re-gear for a while now...I keep telling myself (Christine) I am done modding the rig.  Yeah right!
About $1500 Parts and labor if everything is pristine, but I highly suggest replacing the drivers side needle bearing while it is apart, just for peace of mind.
