Event Description

Desert Camping, Trails and Mine Exploring.

We will be leaving Lompoc Starbucks, 1436 North H St, Thursday March 24th at 6AM and heading to Mojave. We will meet up in Mojave (location to be determined) at 10AM then head into Last Chance Canyon to set up a base camp, do some trails, exploring and hiking. We will head home Sunday, Mar 27th.

Everyone is welcome to join us. This will be a primitive camp with no toilets or showers.

From Mojave, go 20 miles north on the 14 to Redrock Randsburg Rd. Veer right onto Redrock Randsburg Rd and go exactly 6 miles to the Last Chance Canyon trailhead on the left. The trailhead is easily overlooked and passed up, so I suggest you zero your trip meter at the Redrock Randsburg turnoff and go 6 miles.

I have three references for the GPS coordinates for this trip and they are all different. I borrowed these from a previous trip by another group of wheelers and they are very close to the other two sets.

Meet at Last Chance Canyon trailhead

Burro Schmidt Tunnel

You'll have the opportunity to walk through the tunnel. Bring a flashlight or headlamp with you. We will decide on a base camp after we check out the tunnel. We can meet up at the next waypoint (Mesquite Canyon Intersection) and go to camp from there.
