We had pretty good attendance at the Trail Patrol Meeting Saturday and received some good information as to what our tasks are. Now we need to start a volunteer schedule to man the trails.
We have responsibility to patrol two main trails. Long Canyon Trail (LCT) and Cody Meadows Trail (CMT). We need to have two vehicles in each patrol, no more and no less. Cody Meadows Trail is fairly long and could be divided into two parts. So we can have a maximum of 6 patrol vehicles out at any one time. Two on LCT and four on CMT.
We can also explore some of the side trails. One of our tasks will be to produce GPS tracks of all of the trails we travel. The Forest Service can use these to revise and improve mapping for the area.
In addition to producing GPS info, we will be:
There will be NO enforcement duties. Putting ourselves in harm’s way is not a part of the plan. We will act as eyes and ears for the FS.
I will be posting some of the rules and guidelines the FS handed out after I have them digitally. The rules are not a big deal, just common sense. The most important rule for participating is to remember you are representing the Forest Service when you are out there. No drinking, drugs, etc. on the trail. The quickest way to have this program end and the trail closed for good is for the Forest Service to start getting complaints.
Kyle will be having vests and magnetic door signs made up for us. We cannot start the patrols until we have them. Hopefully we will be able to start by the first weekend in July (7th and 8th). If you have odd days off, we can patrol during the week as well.
Each time we send people up there, I need to tell Kyle how many and where we will be patrolling as the trail is still under the closure order. So please make sure you sign up here before you go.
You can camp overnight and make weekend out of it or do a day patrol, it is up to you. We can also have group camps and take turns patrolling.
With all of that said, if you want to sign up, please do so below. List the dates you are interested in as well. Thank you for your help.
I will add more information as I receive it.
Our new patrol signs.

I'm not asking for or expecting it but unless they make a provision for a single per vehicle I will have to pass.
