Event Description

It's that time of year again... Esprit de Four is hosting its semi-annual Safety Clinic at Hollister Hills SVRA on Saturday, May 18th.  As part of the event, participants can camp out in Area 5 on Friday and Saturday nights.  Camping and day use fees are included in the cost of the clinic.  I am a member of Esprit de Four and will be volunteering at the event.

This is a great introduction to basic off-road driving skills.  It's  where I spent my first day off-road in my FJ, and I found it extremely helpful.  The morning starts with a classroom session and equipment demos.  You will learn many safety tips, such as what to do if you feel your truck starting to roll over (a great technique I've made successful use of 3 times now).  In the afternoon, you will head out in small groups.  Experienced spotters will take you through several obstacles at the main obstacle course (everything is optional) and various exercises such as tire placement, followed by a couple of trails.  If the Ravine / V-notch is not too rutted out, you will have the chance to be guided through that challenging obstacle by spotters with decades of experience (that's the part that got me hooked on wheeling!).  There is a barbeque and slide show at the end of the day.

All makes and models of 4WD vehicles are welcome.  This clinic isn't just for newbies.  It's also great for those with some experience to expand their knowledge and get some one-on-one instruction.

@Mike & Revoked - I've wheeled with both you guys, and a lot of it will be review for you, but I think there's still an opportunity to learn new and helpful things, and get some one-on-one advice from the most experienced off-road drivers I've wheeled with so far. I learn something new every time I'm out with them. This is also a great time to let your significant other have a shot behind the wheel if you sign up for the second driver option. Aeon and Krista did that, and Krista drove all the obstacles they led people through in the lower obstacle course! Hopefully, they'll be doing the ravine/v-notch at this clinic!

I really wanted to do the slick rock even this weekend, but this course looks really beneficial.  If for some reason I cant do slick rock, Ill be there!
