    Hi Dave
Can you tell me if there are any runs close to Pismo that I might be able to do during the day. I am not into playing in the sand.
  • CentralCalFJ

Yes, there are some local runs around San Luis County. Pine Mountain, Las Chicas and Garcia Ridge are all close. The rest are very easy forest type roads and trails. I will bring my maps and trail guides for you on Thursday; Wes is a San Luis trail rat and can give better advice than I can. He put us on Las Chicas trail on Sunday and it had some nice rock obstacles on it, turned out to be a fun run. I still don't think our FJ's can make the steps on Pine Mountain. Need a big lift, 6", big tires, 35" +, armor and a winch. It can be done, but recovery with any broken parts would be very hard, it’s narrow with drop off on both sides. It should be done in the morning with plenty of time for repairs and/or recovery IMHO. The short way in takes you to the bottom, the longer way in takes you to the top and would be easier as you could slide down a lot of rock on your armour.

If any of you have any ideas about some good trails jump in here!

The three day weekends at Pismo have a max of 1,000 vehicles on the beach. They sell out holidays in advance so you would all need reservations in advance, and it would be very crowded. Give them a call and ask if it is sold out yet, thanksgiving is sold out. I'm going to start a thread for our next social; Firestone Brewery in Buellton is central and has great beer!
  • NyNomad

hhmmm. beeer...... the online reserve calender all ready has the Dec31 booked! lol, aww well.. we'll hammer out a date
  • CentralCalFJ

Dale, Jake, Wess and all of you who wanted a Trasharoo at the discount price from Surf n Turf, call them and mention my name and the StepCal/NorCal camp and they will give you the discounted price on an awesome product! Beazel also made the Face Book add!
  • CentralCalFJ

Step Cal trails are featured in the Jan 2011 issue of Four Wheeler magazine. Page 76, wine Country wheeling, covers Pozo-La Panza, Pine Mountain, Garcia Ridge, Rock Front and the Sierra Madres. And no, they did not run the steps in their 4Runner!

They also have an FJ getting an Icon stage 5 and an article on the Ouray CO areas, the pics of Black Bear make me want to go back soon!

It’s about time Four Wheeler had some Toyotas, well worth it to pick up this month if you don't have a subscription.
  • potatomutato

thanks for the heads-up on the article! i'll have to check it out.

Coming in Mid February 2011: Pismo Beach Photo Shoot, BBQ & Camp Out !!

  • NyNomad

    Step~Cal-FJ's... now on Facebook!
  • High-yo-silver

A central Cal group... maybe we will have some get together in the valley then one of these days instead of all the way in San Fran  :O)
  • CentralCalFJ

We are going to get some rain before and during the Last Chance Canyon run, bring rain gear and a big tarp for cover.  The rain will keep some of the dust down and get the wild flowers and grass growing.  Looking forward to it!  If you want to see the weather reports, look at Ridgecrest and Mojave.  Hope to see you there!
  • NyNomad

after last weekends Last Chance Canyon run and pushing the limits of the bone stock FJ i ordered the ToyTec 3'' leveling kit spacers ... hopefully i made a good choice
  • CentralCalFJ

Method wheels arriving in two weeks, Toyos ready to go, Rock Front 23rd or 24th?
  • NyNomad

  • NyNomad

    ROCK FRONT! 23rd!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • USA4X4

Rock front might be a good spot to break in the saw's and my new duratrac's,

    where are you meeting at?

  • CentralCalFJ

Not sure yet, we can meet you in Santa Maria on the way out.  Give me a call when it gets closer and we can plan somethigng.  I think Byran is going to join us for this one.

  • USA4X4

Not going to make it to Rock front. Had knee surgery about 15 days ago and healing slower than I thought I would....next time.
  • CentralCalFJ

For all you step cal members on this site, we are also on face book as a closed group, so do a search for step cal on FB and send us a request to join.  The idea about the closed group is that we can post up about where we are going and the planned events and unless you are a member of the group on FB you can't see any posts, even your FB friends cant see what you post.

Some may not care what is open on FB but others don't want friends, friends of friends, etc, etc...knowing what they are doing or where they are all the time.

If you are a step cal member on Norcal we will add you to the FB group if you would like to join it.  Please add a note with your Norcal name so we know who you are.

    Thanks, Dave

  • NyNomad

also, we are looking for those interested in participating a future Adopt A Trail program. more info to come but if interested let us know!
  • potatomutato

Bryan, where are you guys looking to adopt? i'm already in talks with Sierra and Sequoia National Forests. it will most likely be a trail in the Sequoia NF with other types of volunteer work in Sierra. let's talk so we don't duplicate on efforts.
  • NyNomad

i started a discussion thread above.... from what i can remember the Rock Front trails are in need of some TLC.. Dave has more of the inside scoop
  • MLM_FJ08

Thanks again to you guys who let me tag along yesterday to Pozo, I do believe you've got me addicted. I hope I didn't slow everyone down too much lol
  • NyNomad

this Saturday i'll be hitting up Pismo Beach to play with the new tires at Noon'ish if anyone is interested in coming out to play!!!
  • Wes crawford

I'm heading out to run pine mountain tomorrow morning if any one wants to join. Ill run out to the back side of stair step. Want to get an early start because there is a concert out at Pozo tomorrow so hi mountain will be a highway of people in Honda civics. let me know if you want to join.
  • potatomutato

wow, lots going on in Step Cal-land this weekend!...Pismo and Pine Mountain! jealous.
  • CentralCalFJ

Wes, as soon as I get the new rims and tires on I want to do Pine Mt the long way again, to the top of the steps, looks like the gears and locker are going to beat the wheels getting here, then we will just have to do it again!

As soon as they open the gate for the trail to Monache Meadow I want to do a 3 or 4 day camping/fishing trip up there.  I will call the ranger station and find a date.  Late June or very early July?  I know July is a busy month for all but not sure if we can get in in June.

Enjoy the weeln' this weekend, while i'm stuck at a baby shower!

  • NyNomad

Hi all. I am moving down to Santa Maria in the next month. I was down there yesterday to meet with a job offer, and today decided to take the offer. Tater (potatomutato) directed me to you guys, as I am a member of Norcal anyway now, living in the Bay Area. I will be down there 2-3 days a week for next month, until my current company finds a replacement for me, then I will be there permanent.

Went to Pismo for my first time yesterday. Saw 3 FJs, and if any of the three are members, I was in the Sun Fusion waving!

Look forward to seeing yall on the trail!

  • CentralCalFJ

I will be in Santa Maria Tomorrow if you want to meet for a cup of coffee,  I make it there a couple days a week for work.  I will send you my cell and when your in town give me a call.  We will be glad to show you some of the local trails.

High Sierra Run was a great time, good runs and some great fishing.  Hot Creek gave up some big fish and the secret spot gave up several big fish.  Laurel Creek was good on a daily basis for trout and Rush Creek also gave us a few.  It was good to see you all again, it was my second year on the run and I plan to do it again next year.
  • NyNomad

sounds like HS was a funn trip! stupid work! maybe next year!

  • CentralCalFJ

Hope to see you all at Surf N Turf!  If we haven't met yet or its been a while please track me down and say hello, I'm shite with names so you may have to remind me again if it's been too long. Dave
  • NyNomad

are we going to do a snow run anytime in the next few months?

  • CentralCalFJ

Hey all, we are still alive and kicking but not doing too much wheeling lately.  Bryan has an easy Santa Barbara run going on this Sunday, if anyone is interested hit him up.  I can't make it this weekend.

We are losing Rick to the South in two weeks and there is no time to do a run for him.....he will need to settle for some mud on his tires!

    Keep in touch, Dave

  • NyNomad
