FJ Cruisers of Northern California

So. Cal. mini invasion

I was surprised to see I'm registered here, never wheeled up there considering I live in San Diego County. So the wife & I will be heading to Happy Camp for some gold panning, rafting, & wheeling in July (l o n g drive!). I see the Klamath nat forest nearby & was wondering if anyone has done any trails up there. We went to Kennedy meadows in the lower Sierras and it was a waste of time. It's obvious the forest "service" is not our friend and does not want us invading their forest. Most trails are single track up there and the nazis in the FS police follow you like criminals.

Are the trails big enough for the FJ? Not looking for the rubicon, but some pucker factor would be nice.

I am not to familiar with parts that far north but i assume you have taken a look at the Klamath MVUM's if not here is the link. I know it does not give any real trail details so hopefully somebody with particular trail knowledge of the area will chime in.

Hmmmmm, I'm detecting a theme here. Funny thing is is that I consider your area to be a different state too. Which is not a bad thing...I'd probably prefer to live there than here. We used to be a bastion of freedom lovers in SD. Now, not so much. Must be something in the water when a metro area gets to be a certain size and people start being squeezed into "infill" areas like sardines that they start acting like socialists. Maybe they were on to something with the 6 state breakup. Unfortunately the politics is too disjointed to bring like minded folks together within any distinct boundaries. Water is another thing altogether.

Klamath looks promising, I'm just having trouble interpreting the FS map. Lots of differing road legends with the same description. Confused. Looking again it does get a little clearer with a bigger map! Waiting for the punch line...

you could do "Lost Coast Trail" its south of you but its an 84 mile drive. here is a site talking about it http://www.everytrail.com/guide/the-lost-coast from the pictures that I've seen it looks really cool. its one of the trails thats on my bucket list of things to do.

I would also look at getting this book "Guide to Northern California Back roads & 4-wheel drive trails"
