FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hey Guys n Gals,

Gosh it took me long enough to get to this forum right! Well Annie has been kind enough to put it in my head that we need to move to Cali.... Nor Cal of course! So I know this is an FJ Forum.... but this is the best place I know to go and ask friends and hopefully new friends to be about Nor Cal... what you guys love/hate about it and why we should move there....

I have been researching... but honestly until I can come for a trip, Hopefully in Sept, we cant find out for real if were going to like it or not! I'm a native to arizona, The brown state, so a big move is big for me but I'm ready for it, tired of this heat where 6 months out of the year we hibernate, we dont even go wheeling during the summer here because its miserable. Were tired of it.... so I need your help....

Were not city folk.... We need a smaller town close enough to a larger town so my popcorn factory can open a second shop. Other than that were open... as long as the weather isnt hotter than 90.... ok really dont want it hotter than 80.... but sorta willing to see whats out there! LOL

Sorry not a typical first post... but I know so many of you guys.... looking forward to getting to know more of you!! :^) Big hugs guys.... wish we could have made all the trips this month...

given the nature of your popcorn business, i would imagine you would want to be somewhere near some kind of tourism. along the coast would be my suggestion. i can see you guys somewhere in the north bay or near Santa Cruz...perhaps even near Half Moon Bay. the coast will get its share of fog though...especially during the summer.

welcome to the site and hopefully to the state soon!
Thanks Mr. Potato!!

Yes Location is VERY important... where we are located right now we are fine in the winter but summer is killin us! I was also thinking on the coast.... will have to look up Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay.... Was thinking for a tourist trap off the 1 with the Scenic Coastal Drive that people do would be a descent idea... plus its beautiful from what I can remember when I was a kiddo.

Fog.... I dont see a problem with fog... although I have no idea... LMAO We dont have that here!
Thanks steve, every little bid helps!! This site is done differently but I really like how you can personalize more things!! Very well done.... Cant wait to meet more peeps from the NorCal Clan...

Ohh P.S.: Our AC at the shop went out last week, we actually had to close for the week because of it, and we lost ALL of our stock, so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get popcorn out to ya for the event at the end of the month.... going to try still!
I'd like to add a add to Steve's coastal, tourist invested, but quaint list....Pacific Grove, Carmel, Carmel-by-the-Sea or Monterey...beautiful area. All right next to each other and a little further down south on Highway 1 from Santa Cruz.
I will add these to the list, He has mentioned Carmel... since I make Carmel Corn that would be pretty funny... Thanks for taking the time to recommend some places for me!! :^)
Awww Cowboy!!
That was the sweetest thing to say, Thank You!! :^) Well Sept. here we come, I'm gonna pray that we can make some serious cash to spend some time out there with all of you and explore for a few days... I just told my dad that when our lease is up on this rental, were moving. I didn't tell him where... but he seemed to take it fairly well... We will see when we actually move! LOL
This maybe too norcal for you, but if your looking for a place that is far enough away from the masses but still close to civilization i would consider Placerville. Folsom is just a 30 minute commute from there and is a pretty blossoming city.

Housing is also much cheaper in the Sacto area (think acres not square feet :-) )....and you still get to be norcal! :-P
also Tahoe is just an hour up the hill!
Roseville, Rocklin, Auburn, Loomis are all nice towns in the Sacto Area
Ohhh man.... There are alot of cities... LMAO.... Arizona is nothing near what Cali is... Golly Gee... Its been a great Day here in Az.... Only 94 with 40% Humidity and 66% Dew Point... BEAUTIFUL!! If its anything like this in Cali sign me up... :^) Thanks Brandon!! Where do you live in Cali!?!?
I'm in Oakland the East Bay Area isn't bad and it even gets warm (100+) from time to time but I think Oakland may reach 85 today...
Are you kidding me ! She wants to be out of the "HEAT" Sacto area gets damm hot in the summer, my ex tried to get me to move to Davis, F that, I work outside for a living. She was probably trying to get rid of me early. My 2cents time,
Coastal, coastal, coastal, stays the coolest during the summer, warmest during the winter. Downside on coastal is housing is usually $$$$$. I second Santa Cruz, Capitola area. But the Marin and Southern Sonoma county coast areas are nice, close enough to San Fran, and still touristy enough. You want tourists ? San Fran is #1, but a close second is Marin Counties coastal towns, Stinson Beach, and Point Reyes Station. You can walk down the street all days of the week and hear 3-4 diff languages being spoke, and thats not counting SPANISH ! lol. Arizona, it's a dry heat, but so is my oven and I don't want to live in it either ! : )
Well time for my $.02

I live in Santa Cruz and love it. I am a transplant (from east coast ) but my wife is born and raised here. WE love living here but like Jim said it can be $$$$$$$$$. Just to give you an idea my in-laws have house has a great view of the bay. their neighbors are selling their 4 bd , 2.5 bath house on a 4500 sqft lot for a listing price of $900,000, just because there is view.. Also in general things like gas and food are more expensive.
Jim is right about the weather. just perfect right now, the temps are in the mid 70 in the afternoon after the Fog burns off. Good place to raise a family , but there are areas that are not real desirable.

Like I said just my $.02
