Windshield repair recommendations

Ok so I got a dime sized chip last February following a buddy on the highway up to USAL road for a camping trip. Well, said chip decided to grow 6 inches on that same trip and now, a year (almost) later it has grown to about 3 feet. Yup almost the whole windshield. So hearing all the horror stories out there, does anyone have a recommendation for an experienced (with FJs) glass shop? I'm in Modesto and will drive to the Bay Area if needs be. Also if anyone knows the part numbers for any clips that may break?

i have a pretty nasty one too that ive been neglecting for the past 4 years.. I have a quote from autoglassmastersandtinting.com whom i heard from on a thread on the blue room about bay area shops that people recommend for $261.21 reusing the top molding. they also use PGW, which ive heard is supposedly stronger?, and have a lifetime warranty on labor. I'll be getting mine done thru them when i get around to it.

is this shop AAA recommended? I just came back from Tahoe myself and knowing I got 6 dings on my windshield for the longest and it finally cracked on me.

When you get your new windshield. Get one of those $12 repair kits for your glove box so the next time you get a dime size dings you can repair it on the spot before it grows.

I am due also, Mine has like 15 repairs and 100,000 miles of pitting.

Two good experiences with Safelite.

I have AAA, and they have a contract w/ Safelite. The Fresno folks took care of mine a couple years ago for a replacement, and did a great job (in addition to coming to my house to do it).

In October, it was chipped on a road trip to/from Boise, when some jerk in a Hyundai passed in N/E Nevada over double yellows/divided highway and kicked up a quarry amount of gravel. I stopped in at a Safelite location in Reno, called AAA, and they repaired it on the spot and did another great job.

Thanks for the info on the shop Lumbajack, and the parts numbers Nestor. Cowboy, I definately will get a kit! Any other shops you guys want to recommend? As far as Safelite, did they agree to use OEM glass and did they break the upper trim? Also, what was their cost? I have a quote request in to autoglassmastersandtinting.com Looking to get it done right, but not pay an arm and a leg...

For the AAA questions, both the replacement and repair were covered under my coverage, at no additional cost to me at the time of the work.

I don't recall the type of window they put it, but will check. I know it doesn't say Toyota on it, and not sure it has a brand mark visible. I will add, and this is based only on my opinion and experience, whatever they used seems to be stronger than the original.

Finally remembered to look at the windshield--when I'm with the FJ. Looks like the manufacturer is "XYG." It has been "pebbled" more than the original windshield, and seems to take them better. Just an observation. (And a correction, AAA charged my $50 for the replacment, and nothing for the repair.)
